Default adjustable tca's or adj top mounts

Out of interest, which would be better upgrade for the standard road car with coilovers and 18" alloys? Or is it even possible to use adjustable top mounts with Gaz coilovers? Is there any drawbacks using adjustble top mounts in road car?

Just seen these on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=8046409457

Hmm, It didn't come in to my mind that those top mounts wouldn't fit standard car So that's the point most of the people are using adj tca's because they are alot easier to install. But if I could do top mount swap, would it be better option than the tca? One thing that comes in to my mind is that it would make the top mount solid and I guess that it would be better option than the standard one.

you have to weld new top to the suspension turret, like in wrc escorts or so I think it should be done. I've seen one made in Finland, but it was 4*4 sierra cosworth.

But like I said, I'm not sure how it could be easiest done. Maybe someone else can confirm this.

I have both fitted to a car and they are straight bolt on. Top mounts need some extra holes drilling.

It is the setting up that is real important. You need a patient good geometry guy who is willing to set the suspension up on a 4 wheel alignment system

No I didn't take any pics. It use to be part of my job a few years back.

How I did mine was to fit top mounts first and set basic Camber, Castor and track. Then fit adjustable TCAs and compression struts and then fine tune the settings to what suits the cars use ie Rallying or track use.

If you have coil overs your ride hieght will need to be set up first and any corner weighting done.

The geometry system I use to use was a camera system fitted to all 4 wheels on a ramp with turn tables. That way adjustments could be made without the need to keep jacking the car up. Both front and back can be done depending on whats adjustable. (I found it easier on some vehicles to have the bumpers removed)

If you try and do it in your garage or at home you could make the car virtually undrivable

ozcos It didn't get myself understood. Sorry. I ment the top mounts how they actually work. You can just rotate them to get the right setting? That must force big compromise?

Sorry mate, no not to bad, they are offset as you say,so you just rotate them close to your desired settings as possible, you may not get it spot on but thats when you can finalise it with the bottom adjustments.

There are also many other considerations on the alignment that I haven't mentioned such as set back and toeout on turns... Thats why its best to fit parts with access to the alignment equipment

It does however make for a hard ride as there will be no rubber/ polly bushing left...... But on smooth road/track

Well this is the thing I must consider. There is no such thing as smooth road over here. There isn't anything like smooth track even :-/

AZRAEL...

As your roads are bad I Would suggest no more than polly bushes for your suspension as you do not want to take the pleasure away from driving a great car.

And there is nothing worse than driving a car with to hard a suspension on rough roads

Good luck mate

ozcos I know I know. It's very much like driving a rallycar now anyway. I justhave to fine tune some geometry parameters and was wondering but it's probably not the best idea. Bodyshop welcome too
