Default rs500 engines-

another thought that i need help with.
are rs500 engines in standard form worth much more than say a second hand cosworth engine.i know they are stronger and have the smaller core plugs etc but are they worth much more?

im only asking as im putting another engine in my rs500-200 block based and am toying with moth balling the rs500 engine in case i ever sell the car or want to put it back in,or are they worth silly money?i would rather keep hold of it if the second hand values arwent much different

thanks guys

I would keep the original engine, remember 500s are rare so having the original engine can only help to keep its value

A 500 engine is worth twice what a std cossie engine is worth ,,

Also if you try to sell your 500 and it hasnt got the origonal engine in it ,,its value will drop an amazing amount ,,
You have to remember what makes a 500 a 500

what is a 500 with a std engine fitted ( A STD 3 DOOR WITH SOME NICE SPOILERS )

yes i agree in principal, but the engine i have just got back is a great engine and good spec which i can just bolt straight in,which will be cheaper than modifying the rs500 engine to a similar spec.youre right though about it ending up looking like a 3 door with rs500 spoilers then----oh i dont know what to do.i was also contemplating using the wrc inlet manifold that was on the engine as ive got the ecu and everything to plug in and go,but again it makes it less of an rs500 even more......wish i had just a 3 door now!!!!!

As Paul said - a few grand knocked off the value if it ain't got it's original engine when sale time comes around.

Thats exactly what i am doing Jay

I have had the 500 engine built to a good spec , but now am going to have another 4x4 engine built for 500 bhp so i can fit that and keep the 500 engine to go back in if i ever want to sell ,,

Best of both worlds

Paul
