Default Anyone know anything about Freeview boxes?

Basically, I know fook all, I've not got one, and I need to get a couple for the house... But something someone said to me the other day was you need one that has twin tuner's or something, as most of them will only let you record the channel your watching, and not watch one channel and record another like a video machine does.....

So anyone know what thats all about as I don't fecking know which ones which lol... I seen some have two scart sockets on the back, but they don't say which ones let you record one channel and watch another at the same time...

One socket goes to the TV and one is just AUX for a DVD player or such like.

Also check if you can get it in your area here:

Don't watch enough tv to bother with Sky or cable tho Dave.... And I would love a new big ass LCD screen with built in digital decoder, but they is bucks and I am poor, lol....

Andy, the only one I can get a firm YES answer (for both simultanious recording and watching) is from this Pace unit;

There's a few on there, but they typically go for over £100, which is pretty steep I reckon....

Thats quite good mate as it has a built in recorder, so no nasty tapes with hissing sound a poor picture quality, similar method to sky+ which i just bought and its awsome!

Or you can go for a basic unit for about £30ish

Yeah I was looking at the ones in Tesco's for about £30.... Seem pretty basic, no built in hard disks (again not too fussed about that as such, I agree it would be extremely useful, like pause TV and no messing about with tapes, but I don't watch TV that often, it's mainly my old dear and trying to explain to her how to use it would be about the same as teaching her to fit a Zetec turbo conversion ). Only thing I thought would be usefull would be being able to record one digital channel and watch another - I mean how annoying would it e if video's would only let you record the channel your watching?

From looking at them, most have RF loop throughs, like VCR's, allowing you to record a digital channel, and watch an analoge channel like BBC1.... But it means you can't watch say ITV3 and record E4.....

What I might do tho is just get a cheapie one, or get one cheap off ebay and use it as a tester - plug it in downstairs to see how well it works and test the signal etc, and then try it in my room (which probably won't work as I only have an indoor arial) and if it works hunt out a better one if poss......

Might go down tesco again....

Thats a lot of channels Ish! A few too many for me, and I don't watch enough TV to warrent the extra cost....

So I bought a cheapo FV box from Tesco's for under £30, which seems to pick up everything fine

Cept on my upstairs TV which doesn't have an RF input cable, and uses a travel aerial like this one;

which is fine for analog reception most of the time, but I can't get a dozen channels when plugged into the digi box..... Including ch3 + ch4!!!!
