Default OFF THE SHELF CHIPS.....

HI

I have a stage 3 large turbo Escort Cosworth approx 330bhp , want to go to approx 370. I know the best way fwd is a live map on light blues /greys by MSD but this is not practical at the moment. Why is it u can't buy a chip of the shelf to run light blues on a standard spec engine (upgraded head gasket) ???

Might be a silly question but if you can do it for Dark Greens why not Light blues.....(I appreciate it will need a proper set up)

Thks for your views..

Cheers Malc

The harder you are pushing things the greated the need for accuracy.

You *could* do it though with an off the shelf chip, but afterwards you would want to get it checked for lamba and det on the road (ie live mapped anyway basically, lol)

Hi Chip

A live map takes a week, an afr/det/boost check only takes a few hours.this makes a big difference to me being able to get the work done because of location and time available....

In other words I will be getting it all checked and setup once the chip and injectors are installed by a specialist i.e MAD

So because of this would like to buy a LAMBA controlled Light Blue chip....Because I don't really understand it totally just seems amazing that a dark green setup must still have sooooo much safety built in...I understand the need to live map a custom engine ie not standard, but would have though by now tuners would have enough axperience of standard spec engines to take it to the next lvl....

As I say I am NO EXPERT just going by what I read on the internet

Cheers Malc

Malc, the problem is that like you say ANY off the shelf chip will have safety built in.

Which will include whatever chip you buy.

Which means you are probably lose out on best part of half a dozen degrees of advance on a lot of load points, so you WILL be down on power compared to a "proper" live map.

Hi chip...

Half a dozen degrees!!! starts to make sense now....I waas thinking along the lines of bigger injectors more boost same map (ish) , there is some logic there somewhere (in my head anyway )

Hi Gareth

It only takes that long because of the cold start setup...only get a few mins of running to set up before to warm, hence the week....

Cheers
