As title I am soon going to be converting my fiesta to a turbo and need to upgrade the brakes. I've heard that Escos and sapp 4x4 brakes will fit, I want to change calipers etc. What is the best/easiest one to go for? Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers

i got 4x4 escort cos brakes on the front of my car, cam with disc etc froma guy on here, they bolt stright on-ish, all you need to do is space the caliper out a bit, about 5 mm or so, i used nice thick washers and longer bolts
what ever thickness of wahsers you get get bolts that will fit , so you can see the base of bolt as you would with normal calipers, think mine that i used were 30 or 35 mm, cant remember now as it was a while ago, but dont use the old bolts cos they will do up but there not really long enough, a bit of thread lock wont go a mis too.
some say washers are dodgy, but i cant see why they would be, just a pin when ya take caliper off and they fall out
.
dont be tempted to get loads of thin ones though.
thinking about it if i am remebering right my washers are 2 mm thick each and ihave 3 for each bolt, only as that was all i could get at the time

yeah it would mate, the backs are are smaller and completely different, i got them on the back of my car as i got rear disc, lol
as far as i know the saph 4x4 calipers ar the same as the escort cos ones but the sapf disc are different as far as i know.
the 2wd saph cossie uses different calipers than the 4x4 so dont get them, disc may be different to the 4x4 but im unsure on that.
if ya getting saph 4x4 cossie calipers make sure you get 4x4 disc, as i say, im not 100% sure if the disc on a saph are different to those on a escort cos so ya might be better off just getting disc for a escort cos as i know there fit and if ya buying new disc cost wise prob aint gunna be different.
i was lucky when i got mine, the guy was selling the calipers for Ł60, asked him about the disc which he said was rusty as they been satin his gargae for ages ( drilled and grooved)and he chucked them in as he was gunna bin them
mate picked them up when he went to trax ( billy bonus, no postage)
got the wire brush in a drill and the disc's clean up treat. and there still on my car now, lol
still pads was a nightmare, it seems there are about 6 different pads that fit the caliper or ones like it.
e.g shap cos, escot cos, scorpio cos etc lol got there in the end, prob being with mine is i didnt have old pads to compaire them to, so if you can get a old pad with the caliper your be able to get the right pad first time insted of 2 trips, refund and then going else where like me, lol, mind i was after mintex pads not uni part lol

cheers dude
yeah tarox disc are ok, i had them when i had drilled and grooved FRST disc, i had the monzer, not the best that they dobut they were fine mate.
who know the escort cos ones i got might be tarox too, no markings at all on them, all i know is it stops fooking well now, still had them fade a bit but iwas getting them fooking hot racing up and down, lol but cant fault the set up mate, just watch it though cos they can lock a bit easier, lol.
when i had avons on the front they locked well easy-ish compaierd to the uniroyals i have now, but the uniroyals have got a better grip i have found.
make sure you get the right calipers mate.
while ya there why not treat ya self to some nice braided pipes and maybe some dot 5.1 brake fluid.
i got the braided hoses buit not put them on yet, same with the dot 5.1, not got round to doing it yet, lol
the dot 5.1 has a higher boiling point than dot 4 and most high spec car run that sort of thing, its more expensive but hey, qualty cost

Yeah was gonna do the hoses and fluid too, there's no point cutting corners when it comes to brakes. Most important mod you can do i believe. Bought most of an engine today, now looking for calipers on e-bay etc. did you get yours re-conditioned and how much would this cost.
You put my mind at rest as I was unsure of what would fit but now I can get on and do it

no mate i didnt get them reconed, they worked fine, well i checked them over, dust seals were intact, the piston didnt have and scores or rust so just painted them up gold and stuck them on mate.
if you wanted yours reconed it would prob cost ya a lot to do it, cant say how much cos i really dont know, it would depend on who do it.
you can buy a kit from ford, or you used to be able to, that comes with all seals etc so you can do it ya self, last time i asked about these kits was years ago and it was something like Ł30 for reach caliper on XR2 ones so cossie ones might be more.
best thing to do is check them over when you get them and see what there like, push the pistion out and checked that, best way to do that ia with a foot pump, could bodge a old brake pipe by cutting the end off with some rubber pipe and join it to the rubber pipe from foot pump and pump slow, dont use a air line from a compressor or ya blow the caliper across the room, lol
or if ya thing they look ok just stick them on and hope there ok
what cars it going on? engine size that is

It's a 1.1 at the mo but just bought an rs engine with lots of bits, still got to get gearbox and few other bits then she'll be ready to boost.
Gotta do brakes first though. I think I will take them to my mechanic friend and see what he thinks of the calipers when I get them.
CheeRS mate

yeah sounds best mate, better safe than sorry.
i would do the master cylinder too, plus change the rears, even if you stick drums on the rs/xr drums are much bigger.
things you will wanna change would be, master cylinder, calipers, disc, pressure reduing valve, drums
the pressure reducing valve in bolted the int passanger side inner wing, yours being a 1.1 may not have one, you may have the small ones that are screwed on the master cylinder just before the brake pipe, if you have a look in the haynes manual you will see what i mean.
best have a read up on the breaking system part mate just for a better under standing of whats what and whats where.....if that makes sense,
