Anyone been?
I want to book a short break for me and mum in the last week of July/ first week in August as a surprise for her birthday, but I really can't gather from any of the adverts how good the hotels actually are...
Help! lol

Stay at the Rey Juan Carlos. Lovely place. I've stayed there a few times including once a few months ago when I went out there for the Barcelona v Real Madrid game. When I got there the hotel was surrounded by police and press. I thought a bomb had gone off... turns out I had booked the same hotel as the Real Players were staying in! I was in reception when they are went past before the game but my camera wouldn't work
You may recognise this geezer though from the earrings!

make sure you see the Catherdral and all the other Gaudi shite... its quite interesting actually. Port Olympique is where its at later in the evenings.

heres some Gaudi shite for you then! easily the best way to see it is get a personal guide from the hotel. He drives you around and you get out if you want to. Only takes a few hours... rather than all day. Then you get do something interesting like hit the bars or a footy game.
Its ALL about Lounge bars out there now... very chilled

This is a PROPER building though... much better architecture, better than that homo Gaudi stuff

So maybe won't bother trying to have a look round there, lol. I'll only get an ear bashing.

i was there in january. didn't rate it to be honest. and it will be too hot for me in the summer months, but maybe you wear less clothes than me
the hotel that we stayed in was supposed to be a 4 star, but it wasn't that good. i can't remember then name though
good luck with it though. i hope you find somewhere nice for the right price and have a good time.

Depends what you're going for I suppose hun...
just got back last bank holiday from being there for a a few days folowed by a stay with friends in Sitges just down the coast. Barca's very cool, although after being there 4 days me and the Mrs felt we'd seen enough really.
Agree with Porkie about it though.. get the Metro to Vila olimpica.. quality down there. We had some excellent food at a place there called Agua.
Be warned though.. Port Olympic is totally rammed with natives going to the beach on Sunday (most people work Saturdays)
Gaudi stuff was cool.. especially Parc Guell where the famed lizard is (see Porkie's first couple of pics.) and if you want to do the tourist thing on the cheap.. there's 3 open top bus routes. you pay for a day's travel and can go on as many of them as often as you like.. they go all round the city and you get some really good views and info from them. HTH.
Overall, I'd say it's well worth a visit!
