Default advice on clutch/other fault

mainly in 3rd gear and at revs over 3-4k it feels like the clutch is slipping

revs rise with car going no where.

but surely if the car is doing 3-4k rpm then the clutch is going to be at its lowest use?

i pulled away in 3rd from about 15mph and it pulled and pulled untill it got to about 3500rpm then the revs just rose without me going any quicker?

is this the clutch or something else. it happens every so often and never everytime which surely if the clutch was slipping it would do it all the time - especially under heavier load like pulling away in 3rd at 15mph?????

if the clutch feels like its slipping, it probably is! could be that its a hydraulic clutch, (not cable operated) & the slave cylinder (behind release bearing) may have sprung a leak contaminating the clutch, check the fluid level @ the resevoir (it may feed from the brake fluid resivoir)

i spoke to someone and he said that with the rs turbo, the trq is at its highest in 3rd gear at around 3000rpm and this is when it 'slips'

yes, thats what happened to mine when it turned 2ltr turbo on a ford clutch.
didn't realise it was frst, (thought it was the car in your sig) so ignor the hydraulic clutch bit!

Yup, sounds like clutch slipping. What power is yours again? If it's much more than 160bhp or so, then you'll probably have issues like that on the standard clutch.

standard ford clutch is normally good for 200bhp.
