Anyone have any recommendations.. been looking at some 3kw heaters, don’t want any gas or diesel heaters due to me mostly using it in my single garage. No room for wood burner also.
We have an electric radiator which is oil filled in our loft, wall hung with thermostat, I am amazed how quick it is to heat the room and quite low energy. As thin as a conventional radiator.
we have only 1 and it heats a floor space that could park 4 cars although it is a modern converted loft so lots of insulation and triangular roof space.
If you're trying for some heat for yourself, quartz/infra red type heaters will be good and work instantly. But they dont really heat the environment as such.
Not really to be confused with some smaller more domestic type units which just dont seem to transmit heat as well. I've a Sealey one which claims quartz/IR and unless you're close to it, it really doesnt to much at all.
But if it is cold and no other heat, any electric heater will use a lot of electric. Having a couple of smaller simple fan type heaters you could move about might be as handy as anything.
Although the likes of oil filled rads with timer/shutoff might be safer for a workshop environment in these days of H&S lunacy.

Go for insulation first it’s the cheapest form of heating!
Ive done my ceiling with 75mm kingspan and the metal door with 10mm polystyrene with foil bubble wrap on top made a huge difference
Unfortunately in a drafty garage that won’t cut it ,unless it well insulated,it will be running flat out
If you take the 2KW with the convector on it I am so confident that it will heat a single garage with the door closed that I will buy it off the OP if they are not 100% satisfied.
I have 2 of the 3kw fan heaters in a 9x8m internal single height workshop.
no wall or roof insulation and a draughty roller shutter.
Both on the easily take the chill off.
They will raise the panel temps of a car by around 3-4degrees after a couple of hours use.
I too didn't want propane due to the moisture content.
Above door heaters , ideally dimplex if you have the money , iam a sparky and was no way paying Ł150 for a 3 kw heater so I purchased x3 premiair wall heaters 2 kw each and after 30 mins on iam sweating me bollocks off lol. They have stat display , programmable controls , 2 stage heating and best of all a fan mode for summer and also have moving vents to spread the heat around , and they are remote control as well. Around Ł40 each and my garage is 7.5 m x 6.9m x 4.9m pitched roof with no insulation but plasterboarded , but has a insulated roller shutter door.

Just done my Door and ceiling in 25mm Kingspan over the weekend and must say its done the job.. Had a 3kw heater on for 15 mins and had to turn it of.. so much better now
Excellent it’s the best thing I’ve done to my garage. Check the picture of my roof and the where the insulation was missing (done now) I have mine on a thermostat normally set to 5 at night just to keep the coldness away.
