Default MK3 mondeo 2.2 tdci

Just recently brought this car, very much impressed by it. When I start it up it coughs out a load of smoke and the rev counter jumping up and down, like the car hunting. Nothing comes up on my obd when I look for faults on my phone, also when I went through MacDonalds drive through the other night, sound like something may have a hole in it, possibly thinking pipe from egr valve, just wondering if this would put the car in limp mode or not, am thinking of buying a delete kit for it? just wondering if there are any good.

thanks for reading Tim

Tim, I would recommend either buying a modified elm lead for Forscan from ebay and downloading Forscan as this will read all systems on your car or have it looked at by a decent garage.

As for the EGR leave it be, its there for a reason.

I know these engines suffer from injector faults.

On these engines its usually the fuel pump that leads to injector problems, the pump breaks down and small metal filings jam the injectors.
EGR valve is another common issue the later euro 4 ones can be replaced with the jaguar item cheap than a ford replacement.
The original posters issue might be a split hose, the one from the interccoler to the egr this splits regularly.

Agree with the EGR valve, we had 3 or 4 replaced & yes, the Jaguar one is supposed to be a bit cheaper for the same part.

I used to have a fleet of transits with the similar engine in and I did nothing to this apart from age valves and a fuel valve on the side of the pump which cures the irratic idling.
