Mondeo ST TDCi turbo issues
Ok folks headscratching time. I bought my Mondeo st tdci back in January from a dealer ( well almost-Arnold clark) . it always had hesitation issues as it came on boost, after months of fighting they finally replaced the egr valve, cars better but far from right, now been informed it needs a new turbo, yet it had one last july from ford ( receipt in glovebox for a grand). now they are looking back its history and it`s had 3 turbos in as many years and now this will be it`s 4th.
Anyone else seen this issue and found a cure I can throw at them? cannot be low oil pressure or it would have killed the engine, doubtfull of split pipes/intercooler as it boosts cleanly once you unplug the egr valve .
I`m thinking possible injector issue causing an excess of soot or similar type problem that's fouling the turbo and failing it somehow?
cars standard no k and n filters, fancy exhausts or remaps.
at a loss here as I do like the car but now want to throw it straight back at them and demand a refund.

Short journeys clog them up badly and seize the vanes in the exhaust housing. But it's an easy fix if that's the case. Take the exhaust housing off and check the vanes, if clogged up with soot spray cilit bang foam spray on the vanes, leave it for a few minutes and clean up making sure the vanes move freely back and forth. Loads of turbos have been replaced when all they needed was a good clean. There's a few videos on YouTube on how to do it. When I bought my ST tdci it was sluggish and a bit smokey on full throttle but after a dam good thrashing it sorted itself out. I do a lot of miles in mine and it's been fine, but like I say they hate being pottered about in.
as above-an italian tune up...
also check/replace both oil feed and drain pipes on turbo-make sure all pipework is intact-particularly the lower boost pipe-as a tiny leak will cause the turbo to overspeed trying to reach its boost threshhold.
some modern techies tend to just replace-without much of a forethought into what is the root cause of any failure-if indeed there is any...
typical example is a modern bmw m57-if it smokes at all some fitters/garages remove turbo intake pipe and see oil-hoses have oil contamination too,so they replace the turbo
the oil more often than not is from the engine breather which vents into the intake-building up after time
from what is known the 2.2 is the best of the bunch the 1.6/2.0 tdci being a bit of a pain
