My S1 will only start if I bump it when cold, once its started it starts fine afterwards
Can anyone shed any ideas, the fuels there its got a spark so i'm boll**** if I know whats up
Does the oil make any difference as i'ts on running in oil at the moment

Does it try and start or not turn over?

 

weak battery? engine will crank slightly slower with cold thick oil... try it with a jump pack or another car and jump leads

 

Don't also discount worn starter motor or high resistance through cabling. As said, try a jump start with jump cables connected direct to starter motor (carefully) and a solid part of the block.

 

It cranks over fine and the battery is new, however we have added jump leads too but this makes no difference

 

Does it fire at all when cranking cold? I have had this before and it was a bad earth cable but although the motor cranked it was slow and not quick enough to start

 

remove air filter , push the air flap down with ignition on, less than half a second
now try start it
