Default mk3 mondeo duel mass or solid flywheel now it needs replacement

Id say within the next few months my mk3 mondeo 2.0 130 tdci 6 speed is going to need a new duel mass flywheel set up as its knocking and banging loudly when downshifting etc,

I may tackle the job at home as I can do it over a few days or however long I want to really as I don't use the car for work or anything. But I am in 2 minds whether to go solid flywheel set up or replace with another duel mass flywheel???

Any opinions or helpful hints to do the job or special tools needed please,

Thanks
Marc

Don't go solid, more vibrations and a potential to reduce box life

I have done a clutch on a mk3 mondy years ago.I dropped the ns of the sub frame down and just slid the box onto the sub frame then got my hands in the gap to replace the clutch. It be a bit harder trying to get the fly wheel out though?

I had mine done last year and I put a solid flywheel kit on it.
About a month later I put a new dual mass in. The solid one is too harsh and
the gearbox input shaft would rattle at tickover.

I've changed a few to smf not at my recommendations. as they never feel right or change right and boxes usually don't last as long.

I have a 2.0 TDCI 6 speed with a solid Valeo conversion. It was quite harsh at first under 2000rpm but seems to have bedded in a bit now (I have done 20k since fitting).
When I priced the kits up there was very little diffrence in the solid or DMF so unless you will keep the car long enough to be replacing the next clutch you might aswell stick with a DMF. Mine is a mini cab and I think the car is good for 300k so I will need 1 more clutch to get to that milage. I have previously run a TDDI to 280k with just 1 genuine ford clutch and flywheel kit and there was nothing wrong with that clutch at 280k and it was fitted at 140k but it all depends how you drive.
