Default bored out 165/1.6 blocks correct for 2.0 YB?

humour me,

ive had a few beers and im sure the deck height is wrong.........

but ive got a 40k 165 block 1.6 pinto, can this be bored the same as a 2.0 to accept YB crank, rods and pistons etc?

before i spend £500 on a used bare block!

At a guess the waterways will be cast differently so if you bore it out you will end up with too thin a cylinder wall, but I havent tried it so am just replying with my guess as no one else has replied with anything more useful like actual experience. (ive got experience of other similar engines which is what I am basing my guess on)

I'd guess it's not going to be possible too but it wouldn't surprise me if you could do it?

Is this just because you have a 1600 lying about that you could use?

I've seen fitted to a cos a transit block engine, think it was a 202 block? Already a 2l and the whole engine only cost £50. Was a few years ago now though. You'd prob still get one alot cheaper than a 205 tho!

Ive seen the 202 used as well, not possible to long stud it IIRC but for modest power levels it doesnt seem to be an issue.

1600 blocks are too short.

I've seen it being done with a 185 block to get a 2.0 pinto but no idea if it can be achieved with a 165.

Also Steve, i was researching building a very high revving 1700YB many years ago with short rods, bored 165 and Farndon crank/rods etc

issues with Farndon meant it didnt go ahead........ (so i made myself happier with BOOST lol)

its all coming flooding back to me now!!

I built one of those and a 1700 version, but found a 1600 and 1700 BDT to be lighter and more powerfull.

I read a thread ages ago, scanned in from an old magazine about building a high compression (12:1 rings a bell) true 2 litre engine using a bored 1600 block and machined down YB pistons, can't remember which rods. Was a very interesting article.

Wish I could remember where I'd seen it.

For high revs you want LONG rods not short mate.
