When I went to croft at the weekend I put £75 pounds in to fill the tank and it used over half a tank to get me there , and I wasn't hooning it as it was the 1st trip out since it's been back on the road , then I managed to get back to Lancaster services put another £30 in to get us home , there is a little left just under a quarter , anyone else think that seems a bit too much ?

 

Yes. My S1 used a full tank to do 230 mile.

years ago went to essex 400 mile round trip £80 quid then anther £30 to get back but then had it dynod on the same fuel greens aswell.

 

With Petrol @ £5.85 a gallon thats 18.4mpg.

I was getting upto 32mpg out of the 4i on a run, running 83lb injectors.

How do you work out mpg people.

 

At what speed ? I also have the 83lb injectors and think its good to get 25mpg.
If you are really pressing on you can almost see the fuel gauge going down!!

100 miles driven / 3 gallons used = 33.3 mpg

 

Steady drive @ 70-75mph

No booting at all

And yes when I boot it you can watch the petrol gauge go down

If you're worrying about petrol usages etc you've got the wrong car sell the car and buy a 1.1 Micra, simple.

I just fill it up and hit the loud pedal a 240 mile was about £50 and that was a steady 80 to 140 ish

I only get 200 miles to a tank mixed driving long runs and short trips although mine needs a setup badly

 

On the motorway with a few blasts I get over 300 miles to a tank. I reckon i could get near 350 if i was very sensible. T34.63 on 55lbs with a MSD live map (I have a shorter 5th gear as well)

 

i've got a spreadsheet for my fuel usage for both cars

along the top it says:

date - mileage - distance covered - fuel used (litres) - fuel used (gallons) - cost per litre - litres/mile - total cost - mpg

the date is obvious, when you fill up
the mileage is the total mileage on the odometer
the program then works out the miles covered since the last fill up
then i input how many litres of fuel i put in
the program then coverts this to gallons
then i input the cost per litre of fuel
and by using maths, the program then spits out how much it's cost me per mile and how much the mpg was
the last 3 fill ups on the mondeo worked out to be 16.71 mpg, 22.68mpg and 20.33 mpg
only started to do the fiesta this past week and that was 21.07 mpg (but it's all stop start and 1 mile there and 1 mile back type of stuff)

over the course of a few months you should be able to see a decent pattern forming, and if you start to add in where you filled up and what you put into it, it may also show you which fuel is best for economy too

 

Im going to mix water with the Petrol to make it go a bit further & then put a throttle stop to allow only 6mm of travel. Take the engine back to standard & then take off the Turbo. All these years with a Cossie & i didnt realise fuel ecconomy was the main aim. Im not sure towing mine with my Pug 107 will improve things but im going to try that next. Its got me thinking I may be best selling it & buying one of those Prias things.

 

In my opinion if the afr's are correct the car will do what it does mpg wise and when a cossie spends most of the time at wot who gives a fuck

 

I agree Jay if a Cossie aint using loads of juice your not enjoying it.
Many years back we did a mpg check after a day of Topspeed testing at Brunters it was 4mpg on race fuel. These cars were inefficient piles of junk back in the days so dont expect too much now .

 

This is it even when i had time away from cossies the skyline ,evo st were never economical but never really gave it a thought until I got the dc2 type r that was like running a lawn mower went from using about £80 a week to £20

 

I think some people aren't getting what this original thread was about I was after what other people were getting out of a tank full , cos it's the 1st time since 2011 that my car has had a long run , and was trying to work out weather or not it was over fueling, I didn't buy my saff in 2006 to worry about fuel economy , maybe it's just the shock with how much the price of fuel has gone up now , and my car is a stage 1 gunship by nms so I'm not running massive boost

Some people check fuel consumption others dont. I have a full log of all money spent since October 1963. it stands at £302981 as of the 1st of the month. Its a completely useless figure cos when i started fuel was 4.6p a litre now its £1.30 . However my wage was £196 a year back then another completely useless fact. Get your car checked out & then forget mpg it dont go with the word Cossie. We have people on here boasting about how many mpg they get from there modded Cossie IMO they are complete Tonka Toys .

 

The day I worry about mpg in my cossie or have it mapped with mpg in mind is the day I sell it and by 1.9td passat lol

 

On a run to central france I got 450 miles to a tank in my 924 I'm getting roughly between 30 to 35 mpg not bad for a 30 year old

 

on a decent run,a and a bit off around town driving, the cosy does mid 20s mpg

t34.63 @ 30psi, 380ish bhp, so would say yours should be a bit better than what your getting

Did the shorter 5 th make a difference mate , I've been thinking about doing something to the gearbox as when travelling at 70 / 75 in 5th mines on boost only slightly but that will prob why mine uses so much fuel

 

My sons car is a t3 hybrid on greens mate its doing around 300 ish to a tank motorway driving you should be getting 25 ish on a run so like i said check sensors check tps and fuel pressure

 

Agree with you 100%, I personally dont believe some of the claims of how many MPG their cossies are doing. They must drive them off boost at 50mph!! I have had my 2wd Sapphire for 19 years and enjoy DRIVING it, if I wanted a car that did loads of MPG I would not have bought it and modified it in the first place!!
I cannot believe this thread has turned into a "my cossie does more MPG than yours"

 

But your missing the point if the car is using more fuel than it should do at that stage of tune its liable to bore wash
