Default Cosworth questions..

Hi all, Just a few questions regarding cosworths that i've always wanted to know.
When rebuilding a T5 cosworth gearbox is it true that the 5th gear cog must be broken off to remove it?
On the original rs500 sierra, fitted with 8 injectors, were the injectors ever actually connected to the ecu? I've opened up a genuine rs500 Weber ecu but all it was is a basic L6 ecu with no mother board present..
Did the rs500 come off the production line fitted with a 3" down pipe and .63A/R turbine housing?
Did tuners ever mix injectors when running 8 injectors back in the day when uprating the power?
Last, Were the fuel lines bigger than the regular 3 door cosworth sierras?
Sorry for the long list but if you don't ask..
Thanks!

The RS500 had 8 injectors but only 4 were wired up to work.

The 4 extra injectors were there "ready" for motorsport usage. In stock street tune they were not required.

Standard ecu didn't have anything extra inside for the injectors etc
Think it was just a standard L1 fitted to them not a L6
They came with a t4 turbo fitted to them
Seen plenty with different injectors fitted, just depends what state go tune they were in

Thanks for that, Your quite right jamie, L1 as opposed to L6 ecu fitted and very basic.
So in other words if i bought an rs500 back then i'd have had to change the ecu regardless as i don't see an L1 ecu properly fueling a 500hp engine.
I wonder if any tuner actually tried to use that same ecu to up the power or did they rip it all out and fit other systems?
Does any one remember the diameter of the downpipe?

Just had a search on Bigturbo, Under Pectel the super 8 is mentioned that runs 8 injector engine.
Unsure though if that was the 'way' back then.

As all RS500s started life as3dr cosworths, then they were mainly a kit of parts and an engine swap done by Tickford, so things like fuel lines are standard 3dr cosworth

Exhaust was standard 2wd with some restrictors welded into the ends of the two outlet pipes of the downpipe to control surge of the T4 in standard power output.

They ran a standard L1 weber ecu but it did have a different part number due to changes in the chip

The extra 4 injectors had a dummy loom which terminated at a blank socket located under the battery tray, they were just there for homologation purposes for racing.

The 5th Gear doesn't need to be broken off but you need a proper puller
This should help
