Default Advice on some Mk2 Orion Rot

Hey all, Went to put some petrol in the car tonight and got a bit of bad news in the process!

I knew it had some surface rust but didn't know it was this bad until this happened. First pic shows what it looks like when I put the missing bit back, Pic 2 is what's left and pic 3 is it attached to the filler cap.

Question I have is will this be a nightmare to repair? where would I be best go et a panel to replace this or is it going to be a lot of work? Should I cut my losses or do you reckon it's repairable? The rear arch on the same side has also bubbled so guessing the whole panel needs changed, does the filler neck attach to the outer panel? Does the metal locking bracket bit comes as a seperate part from the rear quarter? Been looking at panels but I cant see anything for an Orion just mk4 escort which is no good as its shorter than the orion

Also does anyone know where I would get a panel for one of these cars as I am struggling to find one online?

Try the orion register mate, or there's a facebook page too. Carl always has parts and Mark is very talented with a welder, they will probably be able to help more

Might be worth trying to find one breaking that's solid and cut it out

I'm sure years ago repair panels were available for escorts...
On my old red orion we just made our own repair panel up...

So is the top of the filler neck rotten or is it just the rear quarter panel?

As far as I know the filler neck is plastic is it not?

The metal bracket and quarter panel is what is rotten, The Mk4 Escort Panel wont fit as Its not long enough as the Orion is longer, The section might be the same to cut out though

Filler repair panel from an escort should be the same mate and then you can get arch repair panels as well. Rear quarters arnt nice to change anyways and I'd only cut out what's rotten and save as much original metal as possible as it's much better quality and fit.

It's just one of the joys of old ford ownership!!!
