1st escort rs turbo
hi guys iv just brought my first ever escort rs turbo its a good clean solid car thats never been messed around with i.e boost guages drilled into dash ect its all original n thats how id like to keep it apart from a few engine upgrades. Iv been reading up and the first things i seem that id need to change is some upgrades to the cooling system as the engines run very hot and the turbo n rad are very close has any one got any recomendations for a simple and effective upgrade to keep my engine cool its just has original parts at min
cheers
cheers
Thanks guys thats great il keep my eye out for a stainless rad and a twin fan system. i Cant belive how much fun these cars are iv wanted one ever since i was about 5 and my dad had a few so i just decided its time to treat myself. its garaged for the winter now so i just plan to do these few things before it comes out again next summer. Looking forward to going to some of my 1st ford shows aswell
rad/front mount intercooler should be as close as possible, with two fans on the intercooler. seal the I/c and rad gap with a strip of high density foam. this will help ensure air is forced through the rad rather than through gaps. also change the stat to a lower one and msd fan switch will allow the fans to kick in a bit earlier. use the best oil you can, fully synthetic 10w40 should suffice. also use the best fuel you can, ideally shell v power or bp ultimate. they don't like crappy fuel
thanks all sounds like advice that makes sense to nme and u all seem to know ur stuff. iv put 2 pics up but im still on L plates with this website lol n slowly getting to grips with it tho as soon as i got it i changed oil for millers 10w40 just incase it hadnt been done. the only bthing yhat has been changed is indicator lens n side repeter but i have the original and plan to put them back to orange. i cant belive how many people stop and talk to me about the car everytime i go out i get stopped by someone giving me phrase about the car its a good feeling lol

Motorsport developments sell a uprated fan switch and 82 degrees thermostat
Fit these along with a brand new "genuine ford" coolant temperature sensor, this and a good service is all I would do
Most of the time they have had repairs and poor quality components have been used causing it too either run hot or "appear" to run hot on the gauge
Also check what year/ mileage the cambelt kit was changed, as they degrade by age as well as mileage, and while your there if it needs it fit a new water pump
These things on a standard car should have it running nice and cold
Then alloy rad and fan kit, and intercooler upgrade is only needed if upping the power
Enjoy mate, I have been messing with them for 10 years now lol

Plugs (genuine ford)
Leads and king lead (Motorsport developments)
Dizzy cap
Rotor arm
Fuel filter
Cambelt and water pump
Timing tensioner and the two bolts that hold it in place both available from ford
Decent oil and filter
Air filter
Check there's 12v's at the fuel pump
Check rear tie bar condition as I have had one snap at speed and so did a friend, so general check on all structural components
All of the above parts are available from Motorsport developments and when you get bored they sell all the stuff too mod it
Get a chipped ecu second hand (much cheaper)
Bailey/ AS breather kit ( again second hand will be cheaper)
-31 actuator (needs to be brand new)
Front mount intercooler and alloy rad kit (new or second hand but second hand will be half price)
Free flowing exhaust system and air filter
This lot once set up by a professional will do anything between 170/195bhp depending on car and condition
But with 70k I would think the clutch wouldn't last long at this so a clutch upgrade would be on the cards
AVOID: any ebay clutch and techni clutches, they are shite so only buy new from decent company's
