when i got my s2 it had a vernier on it and i was told a cam fitted, there was no markings on it so that was balliks. i had retarded the timing to 8degrees and it was going very well. last night i fitted a power engineering xs428t cam. the loabs are way bigger than standard.
anyway i notice the pulley had been fully retarded for some reason. i marked the dizzy and put it back on where it came off. so it winds over to start, idles 6-700rpm when warm, slow pick up and pops loudly on gear changes so im safe to say its too far retarded now
do i advance the dizzy to take the revs up etc or do i zero the cam then set my dizzy timing?
my nearest rr centre is sitech and he is 150+miles from me so cant just nip along to get it set up properly

I zeroed the vernier today which made it way advanced and I adjust the dizzy timing to suit. Had to way retard it. Dizzy is way round. Boost still seems slow in coming in and it takes a bit to start.
Good job ive a strong battery!!
If I put the dizzy back on its mark and the retard the vernier till she is about 8 negative. Will that make it better?

Set the vernier too tdc and the dizzy to standard and stay off boost and go get it set up
If you keep flooring it and messing with it and not knowing how to do it you will kill it bud
Just get it done by sitech, it will be done right then

There should be fitting instructions with your cam how many degrees after top dead center it should have full lift. Follow these instructions for timing and then stay off it unless you can see if it's getting better or worse. These littel adjustments are difficult to feel and it might cause you too fook it up
Timing you can set after setting timing right. Go to where you start to det and then a few degrees back. If you want to get it maxed out take it for a tune, because in the all above nothing is said about AFR. You might be running lean and breaking your engine

There was a kent pulley fitted to the standard cam when I got it. I bought the power engineering cam on another forum so no instructions.
Last thing I want to do is damage the engine but I need it as a daily. Ill baby it till I get it set up

when i was building my engine i found the best way to do it was via the crank timing disk set at i think at the time dont qoute me on this 109 BTDC at this time no1 inlet should be at full lift i put a dial gauge on no 1 lifter to confirm full lift. adjusted the pully to acheve this if it was out.
its been years since i set my engine up so please check before you do any damage.

Ive got a standard cam pulley so what I think what ill do just now is fit the standard pulley to the cam and set the timing, that way the timing will be sorted and ill fit the vernier before it goes for set up

Standard cam profile can be pretty different. Please stick to the measurement its not as hard and will give you best results. Else you still need to do it later before you go for set up. Or if you don't even do it then it will be done by the guys of the RR costing you quite some money
As I said, set it too standard and turn down boost and don't floor it, no reason why you can't drive it if you do this
Then take it too a professional instead of damaging it doing it yourself

Fitted the standard cam pulley. Set the igntion timing and it starts a lot better, drives better. Ive not really used boost much but when I did it pulled fine. Only thing its doing now is cutting out at every other junction
Idle screw on throttle bodie
Check for leaks in vac pipes and boost pipes, I wouldn't let it come on boost untill it's set up right as you will just melt it
By the sounds of it cutting out it needs a set up right away
