Right so had my rs about two month after a couple of weeks owning it temp was getting sky high in traffic and when stood stainonary.

Changed to a 82 degree stat and did temp sensor. Flushed water system with a hose pipe was still the same, anyway thought bugger it i ripped the head off and had a differant head skimmed etc. used a ford head gasket new water pump everything is new samco hoses etc.

Its been fine last time i was out in it, its been parked up 10 days went for a little potter about last night temp rose again to about 3/4 am I been paranoid im thinking of changing header tank cap does anyone know where I can get one and also could it be radiator.

 

If it goes 3/4 then drops as the fan kicks in you don't have a problem.
If you drive hard invest in an oil cooler as this helps keep the temp down.

 

i wouldn't always trust the std temp guage. Do the fans kick in

 

I personally wouldn't get an after market oil cooler as It would make your engine oil run at at the wrong temp, if u do lots of track days then yes but for normal driving no.


u need to solve your original problem first without just covering it up with an oil cooler

but this is just my opinion

 

thats what i want to do is solve the issue, the car is a standard rs turbo running about 7/8 psi on boost gauge

 

if i take the cap off it is cooking and burberling like mad

 

u got a oil pressure or oil temp gauge ?

 

My head is currently away being skimmed and worked, im hoping when it get back its solves the temp issue...
If not im gonna be looking at an oil cooler as everything else is new and fresh. So its either a bad radiator or something wrong with the block internally!

 

Alloy rad would help

Hear here. All I ever read is people watching there temp go 3/4 then undoing the cap and saying its boiling up and gargling. Of course it will, the fan was just about to come on and cool it!

3/4 is not an issue.

Having the head worked on and skimmed wont fix a overheating problem.

 

Yea if you take the cap off does pressure come off? Your system should be under pressure!

Do your rads kick in and what voltage is supplied to the fans? Maybe wiring issue causing them to run low speed

Rad might be that the cooling ribs are not touching the core anymore when system is up to pressure making it really bad in cooling down

Also 3/4 is normal there the fan kicks in. If you go full scale on idle i would start worrying

 

I shouldve said that the waterways in my head were badly clogged up with sludge and limescale and the headgasket had afew areas of corrosion on it, so once the head is back and refreshed once it all goes bk together with a new gasket im hoping it will be ok
