Zetec turbo conversion
Hello, been thinking of doing a 2.0 silvertop zetec turbo conversion to my s2 escort, question is, can zetec internals cope with a turbo and if so, what sort of decompression plate and head bolts do i use?? And how much boost can i run with standard internals,on a t3 garret turbo and management side of things, which is the best way to go? I was kind of thinking megasquirt or megajolt? As these are not to expensive and proven to show good results, cheers for any help, bill
That be more then enough for what i want yea. Id properly only run ten psi, would this last though with standard internals? Or is it a case it be good for a few months n then blow up?
strip engine and have c20let pistons fitted with standard rods and arp rod bolts.
devil developments valve springs for "silvertop" they are different from blacktop
fit back together with frs gaskets and new cambelt kit and water pump
blacktop zetec inlet (one piece model) fiesta rst fuel reg
exhaust manifold adaptor plate or head drilled and tap head.
dont bother with decomp plates that route is pants and everyone i know has blown theres up.
follow this route or go down the same as karlos g
st170 bottom end
blacktop head
frs 1.8mm headgasket
better valve springs
black top zetec inlet with fiesta rst fuel reg
i think you need a reverse water pump on black top but dont quote me?
the roose motorsport do conversion hoses off the shelf and a guy on ebay sells cvh thermostat housing to zetec head adaptor plates
as for management the cheapest way would be to get a megasquirt ecu kit from boostmonkeys and have karlos g fit it and mapp it......

Ah okay then, completey different to how i thought i could do it lol, learning curve for me i guess. And i may as well do it right the first time, how much would it cost then roughly for the conversion roughly? The first one you mentioned?? Cheers bill

its the ancillarys that add up but if you already have a turbo car then use your exhaust and turbo and boost pipes, gearbox ect
so needed is bottom coolant pipe (roose motorsport) £130 for kit but only need bottom hose so £80/90
thermostat adaptor kit £26
blacktop inlet £35 plus £50 to make charge carrier?
fiesta rst fuel reg £20
decent cooler and rad (second hand) £200 if not already got it?
drill and tap head for manifold .... free or £95 for adaptor plate
efi flywheel £20/30 ap 4 paddle £100 (second hand) £300 new

i got gotech mfi pro with uprated map sensor and braided loom with launch control delivered for £260 (which is now running
£20 for relays and connectors ect
this would also mean fitting it all yourself and modding parts that you have to work on the conversion, like if you have a front mount and alloy rad it would save enough to buy a brand new clutch kit and i would advise to just spend the extra money on a set of devil developments valve springs
then remember looking at his avatar, he has a s2 so all his cvh and mfi bits and pieces not being used would most likely bring in £500 towards the project..........
if you was starting from scratch with nothing in the engine bay i would say £3k is spot on........ due to the price of mapping

and dubs44 on here helped modify loads of stuff on mine to save having to change things, so i saved massively

im looking for around a bar of boost in mine but with cossie 4x4 t3 so wont be as punchy but should have a good bit of top end
turbobill.... what's your target BHP? This will determine how you do it, what you need and what it will cost.
Waynes for example is a low power, low budget build that will make around 200bhp and cost around £1600-£2000 but that's with labour and he already has new management, if you can do it all yourself then it would of course be much cheaper.
Both Mark and Stu speak of around £3000 which is about spot on for a stronger, bigger power build and thats doing all the spanner work themselves, if they had labour on top of that it would be £4000 plus.

Hope so, just need to wait for mapping as I'm moving house, so might be after Christmas now unless I can get a mate to do it cheap

Karlos- not to sure yet, havent worked one out, just fes up with my cvh keep going wrong lol, so just working out what the best route would be and i thought a fair few people are going zetec, so was just looking into it,

Yeah if your not worried about staying CVH then Zetec is a much better option, more reliable, economical, responsive, better in every way!

No im not worried about cvh, like you said, thats why i like the idea of zetec as its newer and stronger etc
Realstically id be happy with 200-220 bhp so nothing big, more so just want a reliable engine, whats not going to cost me a bomb to build,
Quick question slighlty of topic, took the head. My cvh last night and poured oil into the bores to see if my rings have gone, how long do i give it before i say wether or not they gone? Cheers bill

With buying the engine £?, new ecu £380 clutch £100 engineering and labour
All this your talking between £2-21/2 thousand.approx which gives you approx 200 bhp, that's what it's costing me at mo.
I had a fiesta turbo and luckely karlos got me a good 2.0 zetec from a mondeo for £100

I would look for c20let pistons, overbore the block to 86mm to use them and fit arp bolts, get the rods modified to work with the vauxhall pistons, frs gaskets and for 200bhp you wouldn't need up rated valve springs, but while its apart its mad not too, fit 1.8 sump, oil pump and pick up too
Devil developments do some really good springs for £150 Ono on ebay (£100 cheaper than blacktops)
Or ...... Go same route as karlos as these are the cheapest routes that actually work and will give you scope for reliability and future mods, especially if your fitting an aftermarket management
