...or more to the point what miles and how mint the new car is!

Mark has 6 RS500s at the mo so already has its replacement, I believe he is reducing this down to 3 now.
He didn't buy the delivery mileage one, its gone to another collector apparently

Cool car but its a shame that stuff like that basically ends up only any good as an ornament.
You know that a car isnt being sold to be driven when someone views 30 year old tyres as a plus point to the sale.

Original Dunlop D40 factory fitment tyres
I dont think 60K is cheap TBH
I just think that because we have seen a few really ridiculous prices thrown about its easy to get confused as to what they are really worth
I reckon its a fair price. Its half what a really good RS200 goes for, and thats realistic IMHO.

The delivery mileage one sold recently within days and I imagine it was vastly more than Mark wants for this one. Buyers determine the prices at the end of the day and they are dead keen at the mo for standard low miles RS500s.
More and more race versions are coming out of the woodwork now and having large sums splashed on them to get race ready again. grids are getting bigger by the year at the Silverstone classic which also has a knock on effect.
Not that I am biased or anything

I predicted this 2 years ago and everyone said i was mad
A rs500 with less than 2000 miles sold a few weeks ago for near 90k , i know where there is a 200 with near the same miles for less than that price
Does he ever let anyone view the cars or is it just a private collection? Would love a look around. I sold a mate of his who came to look at a black 32k miles 3 door i had for sale some bits a few years and he said the bits were for his mate in wales who had a bonkers collection of cars. Found out it was for this guy I believe. Brand new set of wheels and centres still in boxes with the ford sticker on plus a few other buts
Plenty of 200s make over 100 so I don't think one 500 selling for 90 suddenly means they are worth more than 200s tbh.
Ludicrous money for a ford sierra with a lorry turbo. Lol.
Ask the rs200 registrar what they are realy selling for
I have seen a few advertised for over 100k , and they are still for sale
But i know what the best rs500"s are selling for and they dont even get advertised , and if they do the last one sold within an hour at near 90k

Im taking the piss matey.I wish i had 60k to spend on a car.
Pauls spot on, the amount of money now being spent on original race RS500s is huge, come over and take a look http://rs500owners.com/index.php
The cars are back in the classic racing spotlight big time and will remain there. The serious big money collectors are now getting involved, where as the RS200 is seen as a bit of a relic with no real race/rally use anymore even though I love them as well.
Race on Sunday, sell on Monday was the old saying. You can jump into a nice cosworth road car and tour at speed around Europe with ease, big boot and 4 comfy seats. I bet they would get just as much attention on the streets of Monte Carlo as the loads of supercars they see everyday. I have only been to London once if mine and the attention was amazing, had one guy in a huge brand new AMG Merc pull alongside us on the M4 past Heathrow, with a big grin on his face, thumbs up and mouthing "straight swap"
A low miles original moonstone RS500 always seems to top the list of cars to own on here, get in quick with Marks one, it might be a long time before another comes up for sale and it will be for a lot more then. As good as money in the bank.

There is serious interest in this car at that price , the old saying something is only worth what someones prepared to pay , well prepared to Pay they are as Paul says most sell under the radar and sell well
Are you wording it like that to exclude all the Evos which are the ones making the bigger money?
So how come this one hasnt sold within a few mins at 60K?
As from what you are saying you should be buying it yourself at that price and punting it on an hour later for 30K profit?

500 road RS500s
160 odd RS200s of which only 20 ish are Evo's
A fairer direct comparison to an Evo RS200 is an original touring RS500 and they are commanding far more than the road cars. Ł150k plus for the Texaco Eggenbergers and Bastos Spa cars in recent months.
In reality the cars are chalk and cheese, the only similarity is the price band they fall in

I actually just LOL at this RS500 price "bumping". And the wee small "in the know" group that know the in's and out's of them!!
Its actually cringeworthy that some group of folk with too much money, are firing mortgage type money, at a fast road spec taxi!!!
The whole modern sierra "scene" is actually laughable!!! Went to a show last weekend and i have never seen so many sierras in my life. Infact, there was more sierras than mk2 focus rs'. And thats saying something!!

The guys buying up these cars are not fools, most are very successful, business men, do you really think they would really fall for price bumping or any cartels. there is no click with RS500s just genuine enthusiasts who love the whole scene, anyone can sign up to the 500 forum you don't have to be an owner.
but the question remains, only those "in the know" seem to think they are worth the price of a small house
everyone else would be happy with getting 50% more than a decent 3 door
it seems like there is an rs500 tax which is even greater than your normal 3x cossie tax

every overpriced vintage type of car ever that's had it's price crash has been owned by the same sort of people!
Genuinely tickled by that. Must be a weird feeling being quite as naive as you to believe just cause someone made money in one thing they automatically never make a mistake with art or cars etc

Chip, as you and i are not in the elitist group....we will just never understand!!!
The same way all the wee VAG fags said the same years ago about their scene "its a dub thing, you wouldnt understand". They where correct. I dont understand where this whole fucking car scene is going!!!!!!
Overrated diesel family cars and overpriced 1980s taxis are the "norm" of today. God help us all

I think anybody that sinks the kind of money being mentioned on this thread into a car that for most cases will sit in a garage must be pretty asute to be able to do it, we all makes mistakes chip and nobody is immune from failing like l am sure alot of the people spending Ł60k on an RS500 would agree,

Prices are market driven and currently very high. No denying that.
Also no guarantee they will continue to rise, or even stay high of course.
