Default 2.0 pinto 4x4 Sapphire

Hi All

Has anyone done a pinto 2.0 4x4 conversion on thier sapp. I'm interested to do the same to mine and need some advice. I understand that there will be complications with the gear box but I would like to know what sort of modifications or troubles they ran into. I have a fairly good idea what parts I need and what needs to be done.

I've just bought a 4x4 suspension cross member, waiting for it to be delivered. My next parts to buy will be either xr 4x4 or cosworth sump and engine mount brakets. I want to fit those parts to a 202 block and still run as 2wd until I aquire other parts. I think the oil pick-up and pump would need to be changed as well.

Advice?

Simple enough to do as the blocks the same as a YB cosworth, your best option is to find a dohc 2 litre 4x4 sierra as a donor as everything will bolt on inc gearbox just use a 4x4 YB sump, oil pump and pick up.

Were these available in SA? otherwise a 2.8 can be used but you will need either a 2 litre MT75 box or one from a cosworth.

Thanks Paul. In SA we have XR 4x4 available but are very scarce. My sapph is orgionally a 1.8 chasseur uk spec but the engine ceased in SA so the owner before me slotted a standard 2.0 Pinto carburetted engine and what appears to be a standard 2.0 cortina gearbox I think its a type 9.

I maintain the engine well and try to preserve the vehicle as much as i can. I'm so into 4x4 that I want to covert mine to 4x4. Unfortuneatly it is my only vehicle at the moment.

Type 9 would be a sierra 5 speed box as the cortina only came with 4 speed.
The 2l dohc is a under powered lump imo.
What would be a nice conversion if you can get parts would be a granada 2.3 16v engine with a dohc 4x4 sump. 4x4 box from a dohc sierra and running gear.
