Default YB Cooling

Hi all,

How do I plumb the YB to remove the heater matrix? What needs to be blanked off etc.

Also, is there a need to run a water feed in through the turbo (standard T3)?

I'm guessing you join the water pipe that's runs turbo side of head to the pipe that runs from modine to matrix

As for turbo why would you want to? But if you do you have to give extra cooling down time

I'd think very carefully before removing the heater matrix unless it's a full blown race car and every gram counts, if it's a track car it's really not worth it you'll miss not being able to see out the windscreen when it steams up.

If a turbo is meant to be water cooled it needs to be water cooled make sure it stays plumbed in.

Thanks for your input guys...

I'll be putting a heated windscreeen in so hopefully that will avoid steaming up while on the track... I don't have room for a heater anyway - not the huge heater that came as standard in the mk1!

So, to bypass the heater matrix... what would you think of this theory?

Blank off the outlet from the water pump that would usually feed into the matrix and blank off the the inlet located on the head by the water temp sender.

I plan on running an oil cooler so the standard modine will be removed..

The reason I asked about water cooling through the turbo is that I've heard that it can increase the running temp significantly on the YB? Would be best to keep this down as much as possible if I can!

Turbo cooling can be removed if its a non roller bearing turbo. but just remember just to leave the engine to idle longer after a thrash.

i'd not blank but pipe between water pump and modine as it still needs to flow around modine

Cheers altough I plan on running a Mocal oil cooler so the standard modine will be removed.. Would it be ok to blank the pump wiith this considered?

You can't just blank them off you need to keep the cooling system circulating
Connect the water pump outlet that would go to the heater matrix to the head inlet just above the WTS.
I really would keep the water cooling to the turbo if you want to reduce the temp fit a cooler into the return line from turbo to the header tank.

Im wanting to run a similar set up in my cortina no heater no water/oil cooler, i was told the out let on the head needs to be connected back to the small point on the water pump.
