Default High idle on saph, dodgy wiring to phase sensor, or likely cause?

Historic issue with my saph, been doing it on/off for years then it goes away and i never quite figured it out or cared until yesterday.....

Anyway, it idles nice and smooth, but sometimes it develops a mind of it's own and idles at 3k rpm, and the amal valve flickers open/closed.

It's always worse when it's been sitting, last night i fired it up and it ran like a dog for a bit, then when it heated up it runs at 3k rpm.

i'd just like to say that it is DEFINATELY a wiring issue and NOT the ISCV, when i touch the wires near the phase/tps it goes back to normal, then jumps up again. Now, from looking at the wiring I would've thought that the issue would lie with the tps wiring, but it definately seems like it's the phase sensor that makes it erratic, i'll also say that the sensors are new so it is not the actual phase sensor that is at fault.

Sounds very much like a tps operation or calibration issue to me. They will do that if the sensor is adjusted to far into negative figures.

Cheers, yeah i thought about that and checked it, I will look again and see if i can come up with something. Thanks for your inout mate.
Cars is going for MOT on saturday so i'd rather not have it idling like mad, although it sounds ace with the new box when it's screaming!

Glad you got it running ok Rog,hope it wasn't anything to serious.
If you think its a wiring issue try the connection points first, this is usually the cause of failure in most wiring systems.

Cheers, yeah she runs nice, seems to idle higher the hotter it gets, will get a good run tomorrow so will see how she fairs. I checked the tps voltage today, it's 0.1v at closed throttle which is ok, and cleaned the connectors. Will have a better idea tomorrow once I've had a good blast in it, my mate is taking her for an MOT at 0700!
Should pass and maybe the issue will clear after a run, it's been sitting for ages.

Pf09's are a pain to set correctly i even set one to voltages given on here and it still played up. in the end i got the iaw software and set it from that job sorted even the ford bible gives a very vague description of how its ment to be set
Check your base idle Rog once to temp

Regards
Paul

Seems to be ok now, it passed the MOT and i've been thrashing it all weekend so now it's come good, I speculate that it was just damn cold & damp, having not been driven properly for a long time. I did find one other wiring fault which has now been fixed as well, so it is 100%.
It's bloody lively now, and with the cold/damp roads at the weekend up here it hangs the arse out as soon as it comes on boost (there's no gradual drift sideways), box sounds ace too!!!!Feels dangerous to drive in the cold weather with the red frost light on, just the way it should be.

I had the same things on my 4x4 saph, I ended up removing the 3 big plugs on the bulkhead, never had the problem again. Don't know if it was just a coincidence though...
Hope you get yours sorted..

Yeah thats a must, I've taken them out ages ago after a constant missfire and dodgy rev counter, never had that same issue again. The wiriing is now 20 years old so it's hardly surprising I guess.
