Default BMW M5 guys

hi guys
A mate has an M5, he has bought an exhaust with the electronic flappers in it.
The fitting instructions say to disconect the battery to fit the exhaust.
Is it ok to disconect the battery or will this cause trouble with the cars brain etc.
Thanks for your help guys.

E39? You could kill the nav if it's a mk3 and it's still writing to the the memory. Make sure the light is off for a while on the nav drive before disconnecting the battery!
