Did have an issue with the box, would lock itself in 2nd and put on the auto boxes equivalent of EML. Changed the oil and filter in the box and job done!

Her last car was a 2006 Fiesta, she went though 4 clutches.
This new car is a late 2010 Corsa, first clutch went about 2 months ago and today this one started slipping going up hill, made a loud bang and now the clutch won't engage at all.

Still, she reckons it's not her fault

Thing is, her driving (at least when I'm in the car) is pretty dam good! Not as good as me but I would say that, I'm a man

I do wonder if she's just unlucky. But 6 freaking clutches!
Actually the first 3 in the Fiesta went within 10 miles of the garage.

See when I had my first car the clutch was already on 108k.
I done 22,000miles in it in about 8 months. Loads of full throttle starts, pulling off in second and raping the clutch playing traffic light grand prix etc etc.
Clutch was fine!

So quite how bad must she be riding the clutch to kill so manhy clutches? 6,000rpm at traffic lights?

Don't think theres a chance of that, shes looking at getting rid of her corsa and getting an old banger again. Quite happy with that, gices me something to fiddle with again

So not only does she take you for a ride, she takes her clutch for one too? I advised you in the other thread to fuck her off, because she's taking you for a mug.

Wouldn't be surprised of they just broke on a new corsa, their a total pile of wank machine, foreman in work with me has one been in 6 times to vauxhall for overheating issues, they won't replace it so he's waiting til his finance agreement runs out then he's binning it.
Although it does sound like she has no clue how to drive,I'd suggest she goes back and has a few more lessons or gets an auto, dont buy a fiesta auto though.....

Oh dear!!!!
Shitroen do a semi auto c2 thing that may suit although I've heard their not the toughest, avoid the corsa semi auto at all costs,it really is pure pish.
The japs make a good auto as do vw I believe, get her a nice polo or yards,it won't break then.Or a Honda Jazz, their tough but perhaps a bit lame to look at.

riding the clutch simple. Just a bad habbit when no ones around. Lots of people drive different when their partner is in the car.

Make her pay for them if she doesnt already. She'll soon change her driving if she has to pay for it.

As much as I agree with you, she had 3 clutches in her fiesta fail within 10 miles of taking it out of the garage who replaced them.
The clutch thats just failed has only done 2000miles.

Even if she did ride them I don't understand how any clutch could fail that quick?

She said this clutch that just failed, she was going up a hill (National speed limit, wide open country road) it started slipping, loud bang and she lost all drive in like 10 seconds or so.

Really strange.

Part of me wishes it's bad luck, but I think she must be doing something

2 different cars and that many clutches is no way bad luck. Even kwikfit couldnt fuck it up that much either so i doubt its all the garage either.

So it kind of narrows it down whos to blame really

The fact that her first car was an auto kind of doesnt bode well either for building good driving habits.

I have only done 1 clutch since i passed in 1988

That was a standard clutch on the 4i with 350bhp going through it.

My Mrs used to use the clutch as a foot rest all the bloody time. every time i was in with her i used to bollock her. never took any notice. so i changed tactic and a swift slap to offending thigh soon changed her habit after a few times.
woman beater . . . . probably. but a good clutch in the car, yes lol

When I worked at skoda we had an old boy part ex an auto fabia for a brand new manual octavia with tan suede leather. After about an hour of him driving away the car returned on the back of an AA truck he had burnt the clutch out in only 18 miles of him driving it. The clutch had got that hot the slave cylinder had started to melt. He scared himself that much there were piss stains on the drivers seat. Luckily the old boy realised he should not be driving anymore and sold them the car back at a 3k loss.

Had a listen to the car today. Sounds like the thrust bearing has exploded.
Back in Vauxhall to be fixed under warrenty though.

lets hope they dont look too much at the clutch and see any signs that it was silly driving rather than faulty manufacture

In all fairness I was quick to put this thread up when she said the clutch had failed again.
The thrust bearing has failed this time. I can only assume when Vauxhall changed the clutch last time they fitted the old one or fitted it incorrectly.

Still 5 clutches and a thrust bearing in one year
