Well I have finally managed to get all the bits for my ideal spec, perhaps not the choice of everyone but it what I've always wanted.

Anyway, I now have all the bits ready to fit when I return to the UK next week, but I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the front diff and driveshaft arrangement tbh.

Car is all rebuilt and running a T4 and siemens 83's, will be swapping the box out for an straight cut Oppliger box fitted and rebuilt diffs front/back, plan after that is to get it down to Tony for a proper map. But to use it in anger I have always had problems with the front shafts breaking, so I'd like to fit something else and change the diffs for something better, and bigger ideally, starting with the front.
What options do I have??? I don't want to go fitting different diffs to the same casing if I can avoid it. Lots of work to do on the car, but now I finally have al the bits!
Car is pretty well specce'd so apart from the lag it doesn't want for much else really, but i was thinking about cams...

are the shafts breaking or pulling out of the diff? if they are pulling out xr4x4 shafts are longer but some people have had vibration problems. iirc ggr sell uprated shafts.

 

Yeah I've been down that route with thse shafts, always had issues with it vibrating, which is a pain in the a$$, did see the GGR shafts but wondered if the CV's were the same?

 

Auto unlimited sell uprated shafts I fitted a set to a customers car the cv joint cups look stronger than the std ones.

Front Diff with a nice steel sandwich plate should survive ok, if it does break then they are about 50p each anyway!

Rear diff just go 2wd 7.5" as it's only getting 66% of the power anyway, and the ratios are near enough the same so it will work fine, and give you 108mm cv joints as well on the back.

 

Thanks, yes I will likely upgrade to a 7.5" rear diff, who supplies the beams?
Will hopefully get lots of abuse when it's all back together!

ive never ever had problems runing xr shafts in cossies, still snapped them though lol

but no vibrations or any problems on full lock either

you could always go adjustable tca so you can widen the track to compensate for the extra length

 

Drive and enjoy it would be my advice

 

are you determined that is has to stay 4wd? to my mind it would be much more cost effective to go 2wd, instead of possibly buying/breaking/fixing expensive 4x4 parts.

Could do something different and go 6 speed 2wd

 

rwd it! then you can put the front diff in the bin

Deffo staying 4x4 mate, I have been hassled to death about making it RWD and stuck to my guns, for now it will remain GWD
I suppose I should see what breaks next then go don that route! Keep hankering after something else to go on track with and I'm not sure if this saph is the answer.

 

I'd go with 2wd. I put a t4 on my saph and changed to 2wd, much more fun! Wish I'd done it sooner.

TBH if anything it's a good opportunity for other folks on here, I will give other people a good run down on Oppliger and how the box performs as there doesn't seem to be much feedback on it.

 

I wouldn't track that rog,it's far too nice a car and if you bumped it you'd be gutted,not 100% but would the t4 be a bit laggy for track use?im no expert though.
Loads of fun track beasts out there you an tow easier as well,I'd say you'll have as much fun in a 2.0zetec ka etc and not really care if you wipe it out compared to the cossie where you'll be thinking "shit if I bin this or something pops its gonna ruin my day".

No worries, I have a friend that is a training administrator at a local company that specailise in compex, so I should be able to get you all the info you need.
I'm with you on the track/condition dilema, I've never seen a really nice saph on track before, but that's kind of the idea behind it lol. But havig owned it for almost 12 years I'd be pretty gutted if I binned it.
Home next tuesday, need to remove the 800 gearboxes and other bits from the garage and I'll get the car pulled out to get the electrical issue sorted out once and for all! Plus I have all my stack stuff to wire in before I put the dash back.

Would look super cool to see a saph being used in anger on a track day but it would be heartbreaking to spoil that one.

 

Leave it 4wd, put a 6 degree beam, get a geometry set up to make sure all the suspension is perfect for your needs, and enjoy.

Although, you could run anti lag.......

well what you should do with your saff is put all the bits on it then break it well isnt that what usually happens

 

If you are breaking front drive shafts, replace your engine mounts with something decent mate.

Personally I wouldn't track this car, maybe at the rs show at knockhill, that's the only time mines went on track because there's other rs owners on the track and it's not full of novas or subarus with talentless drivers but on the other hand that car with that spec will be an awesome thing on track

I've got a feeling once you fit the box and get it out, you're going to fall out with the car as it'll be a (and don't take this the wrong way) harsh, noisey, laggy thing to drive...IME when people go mental with modifying their motors, it slowly becomes something they don't enjoy, my suggestion about going 2wd was moreso for the fact that you can have the power but keep a standard T5 'box, so the car remains nice to drive!
