Immobiliser
Hey guys
Can anyone help?
I have a 1993 Ford Sierra XR 4X4 2.9 fitted with a Toad A101CL alarm system, my car also has an immobiliser fitted with a slot in the dash to the right hand side of the steering wheel where you push an immobiliser key into it in order to start the car, i dont need to keep the key in once the car has started, all this was in the car when i brought it.
The problem i have is if i break the key which is like i mini circuit board then i am stuffed in starting the car, the key has Immobiliser written on it but i cannot find a replacement anywhere...I have spoken to Toad and they say its nothing to do with there system..
Does anyone know of this Immobiliser, i have posted a pic of it in my album
thanks in advance

I can't see the pic but my guess is it's a meta immobiliser,3 prongs on a little MCB about 1/2 the size of your thumb?
Very common in the 90's and required by a lot of companies due to thatcham approval.
Usually cuts the starter and ignition circuits up under the steering column.
I got quoted Ł45 to have it removed on my golf but with a bit of patience it's easy to find the joins and solder/heat shrink them back to the original loom.

Right I've worked out how to view the album and it's not a meta but an even older type(I can't remember the name) but these were also hugely popular back in the 90's.
Id personally get it disconnected and a new one fitted, shouldn't cost much at all, your right in saying it could start to cause issues and I'd be certain you can't get spares for them anymore.

its a 'the immobiliser' type, they look like a tube with wire coming out when you get to the guts and leave a huge hole when removed
easy to remove in the usual way
find the main box and go from there but you could leave it in and take it out when the need arises
or maybe switch/relay across the system so if it went tits up 2/3 hidden switches will bypass the lot

here is a new one but the cards shouldnt start your car??? but you could swap out the lot?
if you were going to do that you may aswell fit a better system tho

i was wrong about it being a tube
