Default Appealing women cause one 3rd of men to have near crashes

An intriguing survey on distracted driving was recently published by the roadside services provider, AA of Ireland. What is the number one distraction for males? They are sidetracked by appealing women on foot or bicycles. Will you be in the market to buy or sell a new or used Ford car? If this portrays you, get the perfect Ford at Courtesy used cars Brooklyn!

Listening to about more distracted driving

In the survey, about 29 percent of men said that they have gotten in crashes because they saw a particularly nice looking female walking on the side of the road. This is a significant issue that hurts safety, though it may be kind of amusing and not surprising.

‘Driving requires concentration’

Conor Faughnan, AA’s Director of Consumer Affairs, said:

“While people may joke about a ‘mini skirt affect’, the onlooker phenomenon or ‘rubbernecking’ can be dangerous and frustrating… The more general point of driver distraction is a serious concern for all drivers. Driving requires concentration at all times.”

Just like the Automobile Association of America, AA of Ireland provides 24 hour road service and car insurance packages to customers. The study involved 15,500 Irish motorists in it.

Other disturbances for males

The next distraction that men cited as causing the most near-misses was advertising billboards. Fifteen percent of males said they could relate to that. Roadside crashes have distracted 13 percent. The next largest distraction, at ten percent, is other vehicles stopped by law enforcement.

In the eyes of women

There were a few distractions for women also. About 10 percent of women said that they have almost gotten into crashes while glancing at vehicles stopped by law enforcement. They were also distracted by billboard advertisements and auto accidents.

Hot guys were not much of a road distraction though. Only 2.3 percent said they had been distracted by men.

Roadside art was the only distraction mentioned more by women.

Can Americans be much different?

If the research were done in America, results would most likely be fairly similar. It is something that may be interesting to see done.

In 2010, the most recent year for which U.S. statistics are accessible, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said more than 3,000 were killed on American highways from distraction-related accidents. That is about one out of every ten traffic fatality. In spite of these numbers, the NHTSA also found that around 75 percent of motorists will answer a phone call while driving.

Although the Irish research admits that very few of these distraction incidents actually led to crashes, and even fewer to injuries, it does conclude that “simple crashes happen very easily, so let’s remind ourselves to concentrate this summer on the roads.” That’s good advice in any nation.
