Default Can A Fiesta/Escort RST Engine Fit In A Sierra Sapphire

There is a sierra sapphire local to me its got a full cosworth kit on it and shell is in mint condition, only bad point is it has a 1.8 Cvh in it. I was thinking shouldn't a Fiesta/Escort RST engine fit as it is basically a CVH turbo, is this correct? just no one else seems to have done this conversion before

its been done lots of times but isnt a simple bolt in conversion some custom parts will need to be made like downpipes converting from distributor ignition to wasted spark and a few others

the old 1.6 siera's had the 1.6 cvh in them! so the RST should fit but you will need to make custom down pipe and take accross the rst engine loom!

Surely with the space a Sierra has, there's much better conversions for the money?

Some the last of the Sierra's had a 16i cvh (93ish).All the early 1.3,6,8 2.0 were sohc upto 89.
Twinc and cvh available after

As well as the 2.3 V6 which was available from introduction until 1986. Also 1.8 CVH was available in 89.

OP, yes RST engine is CVH with a turbo, BUT the fuel delivery differs, that being MFI for ERST and EFI (Ford EEC managed) for FRST and also it will be mounted longitudinally so your gearbox/bell housing may not mount!

If it were me i think I would be inclined to fit a Pinto which was native to the Sierra and uses the same 'type 9' gearbox you will already have!

basically, dont bother.

its easier and cheaper to put a more powerful engine in, dont waste time thinking about the RST lump

what engine would you say would be best to fit, i couldn't imagine a pinto engine being much better than the 1.8 cvh in it though

Perhaps not as standard, but it does have better tuning potential, it's 100HP out the box, CVH is 90, assuming both are carb versions.

Zetec conversions are proving popular with these now but you need to do quite a lot of work to get it fitted etc, again it will be mounted in a F/R configuration.
