Default The truth about the c20xe please

A friend of mine had a go in my 2.9 v6 24v BOA XR4x4 and said he finds it hard to believe it's near 200bhp.

I know he aint scared of his right foot either so I reckon he had a good go down his local b roads.

He has a mk2 Astra GTE 16v and seemed to beleive the Sierra wasn't as fast.

Now I know the Astra is lighter especially with the 4x4 stuff on the Sierra, he has a 'power cap' ( I presume some sort of uprated fuel pressure regulator?) a good exhaust an an unknown chip, which is how he bought the car years ago. Maybe more stuff that he doesn't know about?

I have not been in the car neither as a passenger or a driver, but have heard a lot of my friends say it is an animal.

Please don't think I have anything against Vauxhalls as I don't and I know what a good reputation the xe engine has I just want to know what power you can make easily without a turbo. He's always said I should stick an xe in one of my Sierra's.

Opinions please

sierra is big, heavy, and the transmission sucks out the power.

plus the power delivery of the BOA isn't very dramatic and doesnt "feel" fast anyway.

im not surprised he made the comments he did, mk2 astras with C20XEs feel pretty damn quick

GTE 16v is a quick car, it's what I would bet on if the 2 were to race

As above, the trans losses and weight disadvantage would make a mildy tweeked Astra GTE feel quicker.

A power cap is a replacement part for a section of the induction system by the way, it's supposed to give more power too

Realistically, going by those mods it would have less than 170 bhp, probably nearer 160 but you never know and as you suggest - there maybe more done to it.

Cheers chaps

About what I thought, he said the delivery of the power was totally different to his Astra.

I do hope to put the BOA in my two door with a RWD box.

I would say 160-170 with simple mods.

Go to town on it and you could have a 9000rpm 300bhp n/a motor.

IMO I would take one over a YB with a turbo on

I went out in a friends p100 24v BOA a few years ago and can safely say it would trance my standard saph at the time. I was shocked how well it reved compared to other 24v transplants , obviosly the p100 weighs less but was still 4x4. It was a standard engine that just revved its tits off for a v6. My friends xr4i 24v goes very well too . I love the way vauxhall are such a hard to beat car when it comes to pure street race .
