You could try cleaning the 3 multi plug connections on the bulk head. These can cause problems too.

At the back end of the engine, they're fixed to the black bulkhead panel in the engine bay.

If you do not floor it and just raise the rev slowly does it do the same thing? It could be the Spark Plugs... Do you have your old ones to troubleshoot it? What boost are you running?

Iv tried 4psi to 15 psi with no luck. I have new iridium tip plugs also Iv got ford 071 plugs (new) to try? The crank position gap is 0.63 & and phase gap is 0.20 when this problem happens it cuts the engine revs off then back on and backfires thou?

I had this problem with my 3 door, had a old rotor arm in the shed and thought i would try that, thinking it would be a waste of time and it cured my problem, the old rotor arm is still on there.

Have you tried to read out the fault codes? There is a thread somewhere how to build one of those readers and the codes, but cant find it at the moment.

Yep got for lug, i ordered a new set of ht leads last night, should be getting them tomorrow or thursday. I think having the ECU tested for faults is next, does anyone know how much these things cost?

Testing for faults is the cheapest thing you can do! It is just a wire, an LED and a Switch. And it probably tells you what is wrong before you buy a lot of parts.

If the management light isn't on I don't think you will extract a code from it. Misfiring is common fault on cossies usually simple to fix. Most of the time it relates to phase and crank sensor, a weak spark causes loads of problems. I would disconnect every plug on the engine loom and clean them up and then double check phase and crank sensor gaps and position. After this cap, arm, coil and leads and plugs. But also check connections under dash by ecu as a couple of relays are under there, one for ignition other for fuel pump. Also have a look see if any play in distributor shaft, as this can play havoc on sensor gaps.

Hello all.
I took the car out earlier with new 071 plugs & new leads, regaped the phase sensor with no joy. I did however test it putting my foot down slowly to 6000rpm out on the road and its runs fine. I think fuel pump/filter my be the problem? It still kangaroos @1600rpm thou?

Indeed, a faulty fuel supply can cause some missfires! Had a fooked fuelpump that causes some missfire problems in my escos.
But as said before, do a fautcode test to make sure all is fine and go from there.

And as we talk about fuel delivery, is your pump wireing still standard?
