Default Car Keeping rules quickie,UPDATE, yes i can :-)

Please Excuse the title i couldnt think how else to put it

Question...

If a car is "not" mot'd and taxed can you still keep the insurance running?

Probs a retarded one but DVLA are obvs on holiday as i cant get an answer anywhere, or a clean set of Facts on whats what to do with these new rules.

Cheers all

Surely you can at least have a 'laid up' policy?

hold on - your insurance company charges you 50 quid just to ask a question

i have no intention of insuring my 3dr yet so couldnt give a fuck what they say - its not on the road, has no MOT or tax so i dont see how they can say it needs to have insurance - thats bollocks mate

Im pretty sure you can as you dont need to tell the insurance company if/when your tax/test run out.
And a car can still be insured if its sat on your drive but not road legal so if itgets stolen your covered.

Dunno if/how you go about it if you want to pay less as your not driving it so therefore wont have a crash???

Of course you can keep the car insured if it isn't taxed or MOT'd and I'm pretty sure they would pay out if it got stolen. Would probably be best to give them a call to explain It's laid up though

Sorry, I miss read it, as Ran says, if its sorn'd it don't have to be insured... Or, that's how I took the advert on tv this morning.... As said, its all made 'crystal cloudy', so you can trip up and they can fine you for something...

No tax, No insurance Needs to be SORN

No tax, but IS insured, Needs to be SORN

MOT doesn't affect SORN.

If it's Taxed but Not insured it needs to be SORN, but SORN will cancel the tax, so you need to apply for refund before the end of the month you SORN it.

I have my E36 M3 insured all year round, even when garaged over the winter, as its stored away from the house. Should probably have it on a "laid up" policy over the winter, but never bothered..........No MOT, no tax [no sorn either; Ł80 fine for being absentminded :-(].

Insurance companies aint interested if its taxed or mot'd, as long as you pay them.
If you drive the car illegally, insurance will be nul and void anyway, so they cant lose.

Hope this helps [kinda same as some have mentioned above already i suppose]

just sorn it if you're not using it mate.

the way i see it, if a car isnt taxed, you need to SORN it.

If its taxed then no need to do anything.

As said above, im leaving my 3dr as is SORNED, and its been like that for over 2 years, no insurance, no mot and no tax.

Right just spoken finally to the dvla..(TOP TIP..Ring your LOCAL department, get straight through then )...

As long as SORN it dont matter about insurance, if mot'd it needs tax, that what the nice lady reckoned..couldnt care as it wont have either now

So im gonna SORN it and keep the insurance policy running

Result TFFT, one step closer to keeping the ringer legal

it will need to be sorned then and you still cannot park in oon the road if no tax - whereas if you had no mot but had tax you could still park it on the road

But obviously if your 3 door gets nicked or damaged youre not not covered.

Im surprised you dont have it on a laid up policy for Ł10-15 per month!!?
