I was looking at the same. Was put off by horror stories of the intermediate shaft failing and destroying the engine. Along with rear main seal failure. These seem to be the biggest problems. Google it and you should find what you need to know. Sounded far too risky and expensive for me to take the risk but each to their own. Good luck with whatever you decide buddy

Awesome car. Prefer the look of the pre-facelift personally, looks more "pure".

RMS is a load of pant-wetting over nothing IME. 9 times out of 10 it's a minor leak which can be left until a service is due and there are loads of independent specilists out there who will change it for a fraction of what Porsche charge as it's such a common and easy job when you know what you're doing.

That aside they're pretty bullet-proof.

If you go ahead hopefully you'll get a good trouble free one. Was just too much of a gamble for me. Let us know how you get on

Just sold my 2.5 Boxster last month.
Owned for 3 years and did 24k miles in it.
Trouble free motoring and an absolute joy to own.
Only sold it cos my job is going down the toilet and I needed money fast.
I will buy another in due course.

i saw one yesterday come past my street doing easily 60+mph (in a 20!) and properly spanking on, 3 seconds later it siddapeared in a massive cloud of blue smoke that took about a minute to clear, there was a trail of oil to the end of the road till the roandabout then no car and no oil

otherwise i find working on them easy, bits are available aftermarket and reasonably priced.

servicing is a piece of piss

had a 6sp one snap the n/s gearbox mount off the gearbox, removed box, welded back in and then all fine.

you defanitly get what you pay for IMO but they drive well,

bit of a tarts car IMO, wouldnt own one myself but would my the missus one

I had an earlier 3.2S, great car, bought it with 74k on the clock and it had already had the rear seal done and a few other needed bits (4.5k bill from indy). Nice car to drive etc although I found it very claustrophobic with the roof up!

My father in law has one, used it afew times and they are nice to drive. Not as quick as i'd have expected in all honesty, but they handle well and sound nice...
His gear selector rod broke, so got a new genuine one and took less than an hour to swap it all over. Other than that and the usual factory breather modification its been fine!

I've had a 2.5, 2.7 and 3.2s and think they're great cars. My experience was trouble free motoring. Amazing value now really.
