If your getting xenons fitted you will need the front bumper with the washer jets in cause the car wont pass an mot without the washers.

New MOT rules say that a car MAY have headlamp cleaning system and/or self levelling headlamps or suspension if it has HIDs and if fitted, they must work. It does NOT say it MUST have them fitted. So you don't have to have washers or self levelling.

I have used this exact quote myself. I gather however that the rules are due to alter again in April

ST170s have adjustable electrical hieght motors in the lights, Just dont go silly on brightness around 5000k should do the trick

I'm under the impression that the MOT rules are changing to make the aftermarket kits illegal, however if you fit a proper xenon headlamp unit then all is good.

The levelling of the factory units might not work though unless you fit the front / rear adjusters and relevant wiring on the suspension arms.

5000k has nothing to do with brightness, it's simply the colour temp.

35w kit around 4300k to 6000k max and only fit to Projector type lense units.

Department for Transport (DoT) wrote:It is not acceptable to convert a headlamp approved for use with a halogen filament bulb to use a Xenon gas discharge bulb. In our opinion the only acceptable way to convert a vehicle to use Xenon headlamps is to replace the entire headlamp unit for one which has been approved for use with gas discharge bulbs. Such headlamps will be approved to UNECE Regulations 98 and 'E' marked to show compliance

Our main concern is for the potential for modified headlamps to produce an dincorrect beam pattern and to cause glare to other road users. Halogen headlamps are designed to produce a defined beam pattern using a filament wire with a shape and dimensions which are tightly controlled by regulations. A gas discharge bulb produces an electrical discharge which has a very different shape and dimensions to a filament wire adn so the beam pattern produced will be incorrect

If headlamps approved to UNECE regulation 98 are retro fitted to a vehicle then they must be self levelling (either as part of the headlamp unit or some vehicles have self levelling suspension which is adequate) and headlamp washers must be installed.

That has been the case for ages so nothing new in there. It's another case of the MoT regs not mirroring the law.

At the moment it's only a fail if there is no beam pattern. I had one of these HID kits a few years back and they failed.
