Default Whats it worth - cat c - FRS

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS...#ht_2641wt_922

This has caught my eye on eBay a few times because of the low miles... But there's a story about it being a cat c...

Curious to what it might actually be worth, realistically?

Decent miles but probably a few owners and obviously it's recorded.

What would YOU pay for it?

Dazz

P.S. Is this on here by any chance??

Why would he bother tracing the new owner, he could have bought it back from the insurance companiy direct and for less? Then it was keyed, selling for a mate(now a policeman), etc. I would have long hard look and check before parting with cash. Could be an honest advert, but it does sound fishy and as you say, it has a story to tell. There's higher mileage but straight ones for that money.

Why bother with a cat c when you can buy straight ones for that money now, would rather have one with a few more miles than a shady past.

Was a nightmare trying to sell my saff in the summer. Was a genuinly good clean car but was a cat d so people won't bother unless they're dirt cheap.

you can get non damaged cars for 7k. might be a bit higher mileage and have a small scuff on the bumper, but who cares! lol

Taking the miles into conderation then, and if it IS immaculate, would it be worth £7,000?

He bought it at 18 months old, for £12k?? Hmmmm... IIRC they were 20k new and their values held fucking strong for a while so even at trade value, I'd struggle to see it at 12k after only 18 months?!

He says it's concours condition?? Aye, ok then... look at the steering wheel, what a nob.

He is selling because he wants a motorbike, in November?? ...course he does, just in time for him to catch the salty, icey, shitey roads and wipe himself out.

I see that car at £5500ish at the most to be honest. I know the mileage is low, but it's got far too much history to interest most people and I think the seller is full of shite... it really wouldn't surprise me if he actually hasn't got a fucking clue who this previous owner was, has bought the car without finding out it's history and has made the story up to try to get some cash back and palm a moody car off onto some poor fucker.

Cheers,
Grant

Do those seats have side airbags like the ST170 did? Because if it had a side impact as he describes it would have popped the seat airbag, and the price of them interiors it wouldnt have been a cheap repair, it just appears hes bigging the car up far too much than necessary in order to sell it, as said above, looks like he got stung with it and now hes tryna palm it off to someone else and rake his money back in..

about 9 months ago he was hit with more bad luck (or good depending how you look at it) and some little sods walked down his road and "keyed" 8 cars.. they were caught by police and prosecuted for criminal damage. l

Like that happened

I think its had more knocks that my current ex, its one of those cars that will look nice at a distance, but to the pessimist, up close and whenever you wash it you will be forever finding defects in either the repair of paintwork

Depends on a lot of things for me, mainly the condition and the standard of the repairs. Also what does he mean by full history, 3 stamps as per the miles (presuming service intervals on these are around 10k) or has it been serviced nearly every year as its been so 'pampered'.

If you were seriously interested i'd ask for the required info to get the owner history from the DVLA, if the 1'st and 3;rd owner is the same then the stories maybe true. Although id be quite suprised if insurers paid out what is probably 1/3 of the value of the car 9 months ago to get it resprayed.

either way id only be willing to pay around 5-5.5k for it as its a cat C and it effects the price accordingly no matter how clean it is

Remember, Category C is classed only as uneconomical to repair, any worse e.g chassis damage etc is classed as B and A etc.

i'm no expert but if fairly sure hes talking about a Cat D.

I paid 17k for an 18 month old 53 plate with 16k on the clock back in 2005, and I don't remember seeing any going for less than 15k at the time - regardless of mileage. Can't see how his mate got one with what must have very low miles for only 12k then.

Having looked on Autotrader just now, I'll go with what everyone else is saying - this is worth 5k tops.

Thanks for your comments guys. Tbh, i thought it would have been around the £6000 - £6500 mark, but, I didnt realise they had come down so much.

After speaking to the guy, everything does sound good. He offered to put me in touch with the owner and told me a bit more about the car.

But, in the end, we couldn't agree a price. He wanted my car (BMW 330ci in for sale section) along with £300 cash. I was prepared to do a 700 mile round trip to collect the car and adding cash really isn't something I was prepared to do.

I don't think it's worth 5k IMO. I will be selling mine soon and don't expect more than 5.

When a car is on the hit list it is cap/glasses below average less 50%, so the real value is around £3k,but it is worth what somebody would pay for it.
