Default Running in oil - discussion

Think i have got myself confused a little regarding suitable oil for running in - some are saying one and some another.

I want to use a decent enough oil that will do the bedding job fine for the first 500 (then repeat for another 500) but i don't want it to cause any harm at the same time so....

Mineral oil - what actually falls under this category???

Castrol 15w 40 is part synthetic which i was going to use as it's the bottom of their range but not 100% sure as some say no it has to be just plain cheap mineral oil

Even Halfords own oil is part synthetic, pretty much the whole range

Millers running in oil is roughly £25 delivered from the oilman which isn't overly expensive.

Carlube do a plain mineral oil but is it good enough to use in an expensive engine?

proper running in oil is the best to use if you have the choice,

prevents bore glaze and aids the bedding in process.

A gallon of Millers running in oil should cost around £22 from any local stockist

Ive just finished running my Impreza motor in.

10w 40 Millers running in mineral oil for 50 miles. Drop the oil/filter
Same again for another 450 miles, drop the oil/filter.

At 540 miles i swapped to Motul 300v. Now done 650 miles and mapping for full power this week.

I was running boost through the car and up to 5.5k rpm within 8 miles of start up.

Dont go all softly softly on run in. Give it plenty of load and at very least 0.3 bar boost.
