Popular engine the 1.9. Some good power can be had from them too.
Place in stokesley and one in darlo. Revo tuning is one can't remember the other

Google trade part services or tps they are vw own parts department. They are all over the country as well.

No mate There are many different sizes for eg k03s or a k04 best bet is to find out the engine code and google it to find the right size turbo.

if you have the PD engine it will be a garrett unit with variable vain. They are prone of breaking if not serviced correctly. If a new unit is fitted you will have to change the oil pipes as most suppliers will not supply the turbo unless you order the pipes. To be honest I have changeed loads of these when I worked at Seat in Darlo. I would try avoid 2nd hand ones. Hope this shed a bit of light on some thing.

Changed loads of these beefy when i worked at vw best bet is to get a recon one from somewhere like midland turbo they are the exact same units as supplied by vag but half the price and come with a two year warranty iirc. Also if the shaft has snapped the chances are the exhaust is full of oil along with the intercooler. My advise is to remove the intercooler and all boost hoses jet wash them all because if you leave them fit the new turbo and start it up they run on there own oil and the engine will go kaboom. As for the exhaust if its full of oil replace it.

There is a place in Stoke that will do you one for Ł300 exchange on a re-con unit.

Other than that it is take your chance on eBay, looking at Ł100 - Ł250 second hand.

I think it is a GT1749, but a different one to the 2.0 one, so check when buying. Your turbo will have a 9 digit number on it probably starting with a 3xx xxx xxx.

I might be wrong as I only know for sure for the 2.0 but I've looked at a lot of turbos for sale and noticed the GT1749 goes on the 1.9 as well as the 2.0

And +1 for buying re-con over 2nd hand and also getting new oil pipes.

I can't tell you the technical reason why, but they seem to leak a lot after you change the turbo.... from first hand experience

As said likely to be a GT1749v. the part numbers are different depending on age so you many need to get it off it. They all start with 0 if i remember right. Never changed the lines on the one I did just flushed them out was on a sharan. Had a few turbos from AET at resonable price
