Talk to me who makes the best and what is the best design to have - i have read that some made for touring cars held up to 7 lt -

What is the best size for fast road ???

about big wing sumps the std sump is fine to a point ie dont want big power and runnign near std power but if ur running like a t38 size turbo then i would as least put a windage tray in and run a good breather system with at least a 8/12 mm pipe back to block to help i have a modded sump just to help with cooling as well, as most people know that the oil does most of the cooling in the engine and ive even fitted a 16row themo controled cooler setup too mine was build by myself and holds about 7ish litres of oil and i have found that the lump runs better with harder driving (driving like you stole it lol) and arseing about ie going sideways on aroundabouts and stuff. also the engine tem is more stable too now with this setup ie holding 93c all the time no matter what i do thats with lucas 10/60 full sync race oil that they do, but theres a shed load of good engine builder that can rep a good sump fab maker for u

I was going to get mine done, not so much big wing, as for most cars this is a gimmick, but better baffling, but whilst my sump was at the place doing the(to do) the work it was spotted by a nameless person who works for a very prestige maker whose job was manager of the dept that turn road cars into race/rally cars, his advice was to my thinking as it was a very deep sump to do the simple baffling that was done, and forget about the wings, the oil cooler helping to add to any quantity of oil, he already knew I run the oil + 0.75 litre anyway.

I'm building the car back up at the minute but with a GT4076 this time along with some other parts - the breather system is a 5 port system that plumbed 2x catch tank, 1x sump, inlet side block & ex side block - may be fitting an oil cooler and remote filter kit - i just want it right for when it goes back together - the guestimated power should be above 450bhp running high boost so want to make sure the oil and flow is good.

 

A gt4076? 30??

No Jim my 200 block is sold i'm building on a standard c/r 205 bottom end - heads already sorted, AB07 & 83's to fit and all the other bit's i had before then the GT30 thrown on - just want something that will do 450 now, shouldn't have sold the 38 from yourselves but we'll see what this blower can do -

yeh i did see your you tube video of ur t38 very nice, gt series are ok (not my cup of tea, i like the old skool bloody hard to brake lol) dumb Q for u brammer are u running a oil restictor on the turbo oil inlet side ??, as you might know that tho's turbo's dont like high oil pressure seems to kill the ball bearings. about your setup should be fine pal iam just mad about temp spike's when iam driving hard thats all why i have my setup some may say that its overkill but thats just me :P. 450bhp on the engine setup should a piece of piss for u m8 let us know how it goes and post some dyno's up with the gt series turbo should be nice to look at.

I use a baffle in the sump for racing as it keeps the pickup submerged during long corners and under braking - I had the oil pressure warning light coming on on circuit, but decided not to go for a big wing sump. I don't remember if I ever found out when you'd need one but they probably are overkill on a road car.

Why is it needed exactly?

Surely if you have a sump baffle, (Tony @ TCS ) and it is mapped perfectly, and you change the oil say every 3k miles, then what is the need? Genuine question

 

Yeah 3.2 is standard I think, it's also gated and baffled bout it because it looks nice

 

i thought it was at least a 4lt sump and the sumps modded by G19 are 6.5lt

Breathing seems to be the key, big boost can get past the rings can't it. I run the big wing sump but took it off for a while and ran a standard one. As long as I kept an eye on the oil level it was fine. Not that I ever had any worries, even after a long run.

I am now concerned that the oil isn't really warming up until I truly gun it!

 

I may be missing the point here if its something u have just mentioned! but the sump has nothing to do with the oil getting up to temp? do u have an oil cooler maybe u are over cooling your oil as it sould get upto temp with normal driveing

 

more oil equals longer time to get it to the correct temp.

Iv got one of SCS/ Harveys sumps and it takes a good 10-15 mins on idle to warm up. I get 78 degress on idle

 

maybe but the other guy says his oil is not getting hot untill he truly guns it thats not right lol as said it should warm up with normal driveing and yes more oil will take longer to get to temp but will still get to temp with normal driveing!

3.8L is the capacity when changing oil when a standard sump is fitted.

 

No thats right, the wings can actually act as coolers, especially in the cold we have had recently. I have 7 litres so yes it does take ages to warm, and on a long gentle motorway run you can actually see the temps drop over time. Made sense when it was explained to me that way. On track its fine btw, summer too, but I drive all year round.
