Default Enngine not turning over...TICK

Hello all.

After doing some rebuilding a friends engine, when we go to turn it over to check for a spark, it just Ticks and doesn't turn.

We've tried another starter, but this has not helped.

Is something draining current? maybe the alternator? (as we have replaced the orinal item with a sierra one which was 2nd hand)...
The battery is fully charged.

Many thanks in advance

Austin

if it is a lound ticking kind of noise i would suggest you may have a flat battery!!the clicking is the starter motor trying to turn over and then giving up!!

if the battery has been on the car whilst its had its rebuild then a battery may appear fully charged ie a charger will show it as fully charged but one or more of the cells may have broken down.this results in the battery only holding charge in the working cells.

Can you turn the engine over by hand/with a spanner on the crank?

Engines not siezed. It turned over about 5 times before starting to play up, and the engine is fresh.

Sounds like its deffo the battery then.

doesn't sound like a machine gun, it just ticks once.

Thanks for your help.

the tick is more likely to be the solinode on the starter. dead batterys/poor coonections often have enough power for that but no enough for the starter itself.

ive had both of the above dead battery and crappy connections on separate occasions. check them both to be sure
