Bad grammar/spelling in adverts
Does it annoy you when in company advertisements and when in contact with a company, they spell words wrong (not typo), or use incorrect grammar?
Don't know why, but it pisses me off

I await people now finding fault with mine

I think it all depends on the circumstance. I don't think the general population will ever master the correct use of apostrophes, and as a nation we have pretty low standards when it comes to grammar. So what? Just relax about it. As long as you understand what people are trying to convey, it's all fine.

I agree, the British are terrible.
One thing that really gets my goat is the lack of people who grasp simple things, such as feet and inches symbols.
' = Feet
" = inches
Not difficult for anyone to grasp, surely?

Charlie,
I just don't think it looks professional from a company to do it though. If I was shite at grammar/spelling, I'd get someone to check it if I had my own business!
Mike,
Feet/Inches are harder for younger people, as we never used them
But I completely agree!

drives my dad mad lol, does annoy me a bit as its like they have rushed it.
for instance if i was looking at 2 cars for sale, one was well written and one had no full stops etc, i'd prob write the 2nd one off before even viewing it.

I agree; I’m far less likely, if at all to ring/contact someone who had put more numbers than letters in their advert!

I think it's so commonly accepted now that spelling etc is not important when clearly it is,IMHO.
Text speak has caused a lot of these problems, look at me,I just used it above (IMHO) but I remember reading an article last year that even the A grade gcse students used words like "kids" to describe children etc, that was a red mark in my day,and I'm only 34!!!

There are loads of examples I see of shop fronts and signs with grammatical mistakes such as:
Expresso Bar
Maxi's Taxi's
Open 8 till late
But the grammatical mistakes don't put me off going in to buy a coffee, order a cab or pick up some late night snacks.

It winds the fuck out of me, and I firebomb any establishment which displays incorrect grammar, or punctuation.
One that always used to wind me up when I lived in Burnley was a hire firm called 'Sensible Priced Vans'.

Anyway,l8rs dude!!!!
According to the Collins English Dictionary - Kids is an accepted term for children. Sure, it shouldn't be used in an 'official' capacity, but it's not, in itself wrong.

What do you mean the spelling is not a typo? As in they have deliberately spelt something wrong? I can't think of any examples off the top of my head (sure I read a Porsche or Lotus ad not long ago that was written terribly!)
It's like the basket checkout at a supermarket, '10 items or less', it should actually be 10 items or fewer, just to be pedantic

There is one close to me that has a huge sign, showing to the road that reads....
"You've just past (company name)"
PAST?? Come on, are you really telling me that nobody spotted that from either the company who owns the sign or those that made it??

Years ago my mate had an escort turbo van which went pretty well with a slogan under the numberplate which read "Cosy beware,I know where you are".
Despite being one of the most cringeworthy things ever to be written on a numberplate, and that's saying something,he could have at least spelt "Cossie" or even "cossy" correctly.
Don't panic, the van was scrapped years ago and in his defence he's had dome nice cars since,so I'll let him off!!!

LOL.
We went to a presentation evening at Rosie's school the other night and the teachers are pushing big time on the importance of English and Maths, saying that whatever you want to do, these are the core subjects that everything revolves around. Then the Science teacher puts up a slide show and 4 or 5 times on one slide he uses the word YOU'RE instead of YOUR.
i.e. We are here to help you're children.
Absolute Mong.

By trade i am a designer, and we as a rule make the client sign off any artwork. It amazes me the speed of two things...
a) the speed in which they manage to proof read and sign off artwork - literally in seconds.
b) how quickly they will spot an error the moment they recieve the printed item.
What drives me crazy is text talk on forums, or on things like car adverts, as said above, if there are two cars both the same but one advert is written in the manner of a chimp with limited experience on a keyboard, I will look to the other.
