Default Fiesta Endura DE 1.8 fuel problem

Hello,

I live out in the country in Spain, so when my 95 Fiesta finally gave up the ghost I was a bit stuck for a replacement.

I managed to get a 99 Fiesta fitted with the Endura DE motor and 130K miles on the clock. For an 10 year old car it's spotless. So much so I was a bit worried because the cables, plastic pipes and ancillaries all look brand new. The theromostat housing is still shiny! Could be the lack of road salt.

It seems a lot of people think this combination is more than a little sluggish, but I've driven up from Alicante today and I didn't have any trouble keeping up with the flow.

The only thing I can criticise is the acceleration around 1800 rpm. If I put my foot down and drive away then there is no problem. It goes up through the gears happily. Driving down narrow lanes is harder. If the revs drop to between 1200 and 1800 and I try to accelerate reasonably gently, then it sort of rocks, like the acceleration is coming and going. It's not like a flat spot you can drive through, more like the power is pulsing. Once it gets past 1800 rpm it's back to normal.

I'm sure the injector pump is the Bosch one, with the electrical connector going to the top of the pump spindle.

I just wondered if anyone else had come across this and what they did to get it sorted. I'm loath to try getting a pump from a scrapper here and find it's not the problem.

Thanks

Phill
