1. Yes the gearbox oil will piss out if you pop the shafts out.
2. The should just pull out, although they feel resistant due to the hydraul;ic fluid in the box and the circlip in the inner end of the shaft mate.

ok tried pulling them out really hard, almost pulling the car off its axel stands!
was pissing me off for about half hour, then got simple screw driver/lump hammer, and got the drivers side one out,
then put a long screwdriver in the hole, and carefully tapped the other one out.
only issue is they joints bent alot. were at right angles at some point, and im sure they also pulled apart as i was tugging.
are they screwed, or will they go back together ok? haynes said you shouldnt put them past 17.5 degrees?!?
gota put clutch in tomorrow, is it best to gently sand the flywheel down?

there is a small chance that the bearings inside the inner joint may have fallen off their runners by doing this, its rare but can happen you will notice this if the shaft will not push or pull in the inner joint smoothly if they have just cut the clip off the gaiter and pop them back on the shaft.
how long did you spend looking for the drain plug only to realise escorts dont have one lol!

oh and so long as its not scored in any way then sanding the flywheel will be fine use 320 grade paper and a flatting block ive done this for 13 years or so on literally 100's of clutches and never had a problem
yea was a bit confused as to why i couldnt find one!
ok your right, the driveshaft had come apart, unclipped the metal band, (got a bit messy!) slid the shaft back together and clipped it back up, only thing i noticed it had managed to get a small hole bit less than the size of a 5p in one of the folds in the gaiter.
is there anything you can use to glue it up / fix it or am i gona have to get a new one.
also putting the shafts back in, do you jsut need to push them in hard, or do they need to line up with the gears? tried to push one back in, it went some of the way then seemed to hit a wall, coulds this be the gear cogs? anyway to turn them to lign it up?
