just snagged a nice sierra dohc Q's
Hi, ive been away for a while but im back in the game with a lovely dohc blue sierra estate with just 97 thou on the clock, its very well looked after and should be ideal for our new up coming family.
for this reason i want to iron some things out to make sure it will stay nice and reliable.
1stly ive read some about the timing chains, its a job i will do but not just yet, and the motor seems to run good as is.
2ndly i have some lifter noise, i have flushed the oil and put fresh in which has helped, i wondered how much this lifter tick actually effects these engines, is it worth getting new lifters or just leave em ?
And am i right in remembering that these motors can run escort coss wheels ?
cheers

i had a sierra with one of these engines in. It had 130 thou on the clock and it was still sweet as a nut. Keep doing regular oil changes on it and it should last a while.
thanks guys, sounds like there quite robust then, i wont worry about lifters might try some stop lifter tick stuff from wynns, its worked on other cars ive had.
i didnt know too much about these, the last 2.0 i had was a pinto which ( when younger ) i ragged for 30 thou with out a service - it was a beut !

yh the good old pinto i had one in my car when i first got it was only a 1.6 but gave that soo much death just would not die lol the dohc suffer with headgasket problems if treated badly but for a family car they would be good just wrap up the milage and enjoy the good times pal they are good cars and have loads of space but yeah any problems iv done most of em on mine so any probs give me or a few others on here a pm and would be sorted quite easy mate

engines are pretty good tbh! bit of a common fault though they do suffer from cracked heads but last time we had a prob just bought a 2nd hand lump from scrappers Ł50 out of a late Scorpian and just changed revelant parts to suit!
