Default To break or not to break lol...

Been thinking about it for a while and after only very recently getting my newly built steel 1.6cvh mapped toying with the idea of breaking the car and going for something newer, focus rs most likely.

Owned my rs turbo for over 6 years now and never ever thought i’d get rid but as is the usual case i you end up constantly wanting more power with a better spec etc etc and after spending silly amounts of money on it things have changed and i feel i don’t want to go any further with it.

The car as it stands imo has been built to a very high standard with mainly track use in mind, and no expense has been spared getting it to where it is now. Throughout ownership of the car i’ve always strived to fit the ‘best’ parts and i dread to think how many hours have gone into it!

Anyway, thinking it may be more financially rewarding to just break the car as i really can’t be doing with the timewasters and jokers wanting to pay 3k for it etc etc, and there's some really good parts in it.

The car has had a full feature in fast ford as well as attending one of their thrashes and being on the front cover

The engine itself has done 1000 miles in total with it being ran in before winter and brought out again last month to be mapped on full boost (done 100 miles or so since mapping).

Quick Spec list:

Fully rebuilt engine (August 09), covered 1000miles in total, consisting of

• Pec Steel rods
• Accralite Forged pistons
• Ported efi head
• Efi manifold with custom fuel rail, -6 intake and Mitsubishi evo injectors
• Newman cam/solid lifters
• Vernier pulley
• All new bearings/pumps/belts/ ancillaries.
• Hybrid t3 (turbo dynamics MD02RS)
• Scorpion stainless exhaust 4” outward rolled with flexi
• Grs Front mount intercooler
• Pace alloy radiator
• Mocal oil cooler/ sandwich plate
• -6 Braided fuel lines in engine bay
• Aftermarket management conversion (omex600)
• Chrome dress up parts
• Spec-r alloy tanks (header tank/breather etc)
• Silicone hoses throughout
• CTS stage 2 gearbox
• AP-cp2000-35 high torque clutch

Accessories and additional modifications

• Racetech Boost/oil pressure/oil temperature gauges
• Greddy profec b spec 2 Electronic boost controller
• 325mm Suede Sparco steering wheel
• Cobra Suzuka bucket seats
• Willans 3” aircraft buckle style 4 point harnesses
• Stripped interior with professionally turreted rear suspension for use with coilovers, and additional welded in dual rear strut bracing

Couple of pics from castle combe a few weeks back,

As i say i’m just gauging possible interest at the moment and having never broken a car don't know how much hassle it all ends up being....then in the near future will make the decision

Cheers,
Dave.

how much did it make in the end dave bhp/torque? much more than your last spec?
I know you've been thinking about this for quite some time.

Si live mapped it for me chris so didn't get a power figure as such.....it's definately more than before though, spiking 2 bar and needed alot more fuel everywhere compared to the old map so the engine's definately more efficient.
Feels very very strong on the road with the extra boost and rpm, 7k has extended the gearing considerably too!
I've been doing some work to it and just wondering whether to actually put it all back together afterwards or not.....i may change my mind and use it for some trackdays then sell up after the summer but you know how it is, think it may be time for a change.

looks extremley clean, its hassle either way you do it, just depends if you use it enough!
atleast if you break it you wont get yoofs coming round in tracky bottoms and white trainers wanting to tyre kick

that is a thing of beauty! Really clean! looks like uve spent a lot of time and effort on that. Personally id just sell it as it is for less hassle, but its whether u want the room to break and time

fair play dave, sounds good
With all the expensive bits you've got fitted throughout the car i'm sure it would be more cost effective to brake it, unless you have a figure in your head you'd want for the car then maybe its worth putting it up for sale first cus you never know.
I'd personally enjoy the car a bit more first as i'm sure with the extra power its a beast- but then you have the likelyhood of breaking something doing so lol.

Thanks for the replies guys.....i'd quite like a focus rs next (a modern rs turbo lol) and i do like evo's too, but definately something newer that i don't have to spend as much time spannering on etc and is a bit more practical.
Price wise i realise it's always going to be worth only what someone wants to pay for it but would like to see 6k back from the car which may be easier through breaking!

Cheers for the responses guys......well been to buy a focus rs for a mate today and they are damn nice!

Also decided i am going to be breaking the car very soon, the engine has developed a slight rattle which i think may be head related so decided that i'm going to just take the engine out altogether and not put it back in. Once it's out it everything will be checked and put back together so it will be a 'new' engine ready for someone to drop in

Didn't think i'd go through with it but focus rs is calling and so many people have said how good they are etc etc, i've had my rst 6 years and loved it but be nice to have something else sat in the garage!

Will sort out a breaking thread very soon with prices, pics etc

Cheers,
Dave.

Saying all of that, i really think your car would be worth 6k to the right buyer.... I have watched 3-4 very nice rs turbo's sell over the past year for between 5-6k......

Cheers Rob, will fire you over a pm shortly
I know what you're saying, i genuinely think it's worth 5-6k but seeing as i've got some of the engine apart i've just made the decision to make this the time to let it all go......and the nature of the cars i can't be doing with someone phoning me up a week later saying something's broken lol

Cheers mate, genuinely sorry for you, it would kill me to break any of my cars but i guess its either months of trying to sell it or weeks of selling parts.

Speak soon
