I was driving along when I backed off the throttle and knocked the pink relay with my foot. The car just died. I wiggled it and it started for a couple of seconds then stopped. It's a mk4 xr3i cabriolet. Are all the relays the same across the escort range or do I need a xr3i, can I use a turbo, or mk5 etc..... Its the pink relay in drivers footwell that is the fuel pump relay isn't it?

Not 100% by any means but pretty sure any k jet(MFI) engined one will/does have the same relay.
A lot of trouble from these relays, a lot of people simply run a live direct from ignition to a std spst relay, through a fuel cut off swithc as fitted to efi models(to shut the fuel off in the even of an accident) and have no further trouble.
