they can both break with standard power quite easily but can cope with 180bhp for a while if gentle

i was running 172Bhp with standard clutch and was slipping big time when giving it some.Took it out and was hardly worn.Uprated after to cope.Standard gearbox will last as long as you as you want, giving you treat it gently and not always giving it some from stand still.Got mate running nearly 240Bhp on standard box on sr1.Hes had no problems.all comes down to the way you treat the car.If you drive like you stole it then it wont last long at all.Hope that helps.

John was you running a standard box?

I guess people go by bhp,as that gives them a rough guess what a box can take.... OR am i wrong.

So standard form the rs pulls 133 ft·lb.Im currently running 212 ft-lb with no troubles. As i stated above is how you treat your gearbox.

Anyone got a link or something to point me to the specs of the standard gearbox.Just like to see

You have your views mate and i have mine.

Torque does yes but people use bhp as a rough guess.
Just pointing out that people are out there running standard boxes and still kicking away alive on the road with silly bhp.Doing stand still starts puts extra strain onto the gearbox due to the short gear ratio.

Im saying some people just go by bhp figure and in which case is silly but gives them an idea.

I probably am making the lifespan shorter but i take good care of my rs as you know.Im not planning on keep with the standard box forever anyway.I hear so many people blowing up gearboxes.9 out of 10 cases is due to the way the car has been driven.

All good mate.I've seen gearboxes go on a standard rs .So im not disagreeing with you mate on that.Getting our wires crossed.Just saying you need to give the car tlc now and again if you want things to last.

What the hell mate.Im pointing my view across. Why is it everytime something kicks off.Im just making a statement that is how you treat your gearbox, depends how long it lasts....

Runnging 250bhp plus on a standard gearbox wont last long at all but then i've seen a 270bhp run one but that was just a tempory box.
Omg im not saying bhp is what you go by for the gearbox.Im saying thats what a normal driver would go by.Of course torque is the force pushed into the drivechain!
