Default Need bit of help with excel

I'm doing some stuff on excel but can't remember how to copy a formula sequence properly and it's doing my nut in. For example in one cell i have a simple formula i.e. =d1*c22 and i want the cell below to read =d1*c23 and so on etc. But when i try to fill the formula down it increases both sides each time so instead of it saying d1*c23, d1*c24 etc it says d2*c23 d3*c24.

I'm sure it's something very simple that's i've forgotten but it's really annoying me as i'm having to change each cell formula manually...

HELP

thinking about it do u simply use $ to anchor that part of the formula i.e. $d$1*c23 etc.

Yes

$ makes it an ABSOLUTE cell reference that doesn't move.

If you only want to fix one axis, you can use the $ before the row or the column ref ie $d21 or d$21
