Default Golf anyone?

no not the VW type, i mean the game/sport just wondered how many people on here play seriously , i came 2nd today in a 'works' competetion and well chuffed ive not played in 10 months, shot 84 today of 12 handicap 37 points . I,ve played since i was 12 but slowly as yrs have passed played less n less . a big regret of mine tbh im a good player n should play much more often . So i thought sod it i,ll make a thread on how good it feels to do something you enjoy and are good at. Time flies so do what u can when you can !

I play a bit like. Been going to the driving range for years but only really started playing a proper course about 12 months ago, and haven't played through the winter.

My short game lets me down, my putting leaves alot to be desired! I'm playing off around 20 at the moment, so fairly poor, but I enjoy it.

Can't beat that feeling when you catch a tee shot right in the sweet spot with the driver, and it's goes straight down the middle of the fairway. Usually follow it up by hacking at it with a 9 iron straight into the trees though

PS fuck the golf, who is that in your sig Dingla?!?!

Yay, golf

Got four days off after today, and I'm gonna be glued to the Masters on tv.
More of a 'tv player' now, but used to love it when I was younger, my whole family is into it, and my cousin is a course designer.

And yeah Dingla, where DO you get all the avatar pics dude.......

I play too, nowhere near the standards of you guys though! I would love to be able to play enough to get down under 18 again but alas, life has a habit of getting in the way.

P.S That bag is hideous!

Yea, I enjoy a round of golf when the weather is nice.. not too keen when its battering down with rain or is mega windy. I shoot late 80s when hitting the ball reasonably, but that can dramatically increase with a couple of off holes!!

Cheers,
Grant

Aye Nice Irons the I3's .. Fucking Fortune new ..

And thats a Tidy Back swing, Left arm straight.

I smashed my Left elbow when I was 14 .. Have to wear a Pressure band and sometimes get a twinge if the ground it to hard. IE Driving range is No go ..

So what clubs do you leave out Danneth? I count 13 Irons out of the 14 MAX.

I play off 8 but havn't bothered much these last 12months tbh. I will go the range evey 4 months or so and after a few balls i am hitting the ball sweet which is allways good to know. I only played 3 time last year and played to 7, 13 then 8 so cant complain at that without any practice.

I used to carry a 2 iron when i was 15 playing off 18 handicap and could hit that from anywhere, I will still drop it back in the bag if i am playing Links golf or its very windy and leave something else out. Very handy club to have if you can use it.

lol i know i could be down to that level without question , this year is my year for golf tbh ive gotta stick with it. Ive played few years ago at a local course Canvey island, its not the best course in the world and is fairly short but i played to 1 that day. birdie putt on the last singed the hole from 12 feet for a level par.........oh well lol was still a brilliant day.

Think putting is my weak point for sure , chipping i love and is good considering im not playing/practicing hardly (until of late)

If i could play to 1 with only putting half hearted practice in then i think i would be changing what career i was in if your more then confident you can get down to that level without question then surely its time to be putting in for your papers/exams to go pro??

massive difference to really good ametuer to pro mate eh....... also im only talking about my good game . Its a game of how good your BAD is and mine , due too not putting in that effort is terrible. Its a case of KEEP playing and re-checking things in the swing and all the other minute things that can amplify things. The older im getting and realising i do feel extremely guilty not sticking with it before. Time to grow up and enjoy it and believe in myself . My dad says nobody strikes it better than me , he knows /plays with shit loads of people for 40 odd years.

Not really once your playing to 3/4 its just a case of sitting the exams ( paper and practical ) and all of a sudden you can be classed as a professional the massive difference is the bit between professional and the well known golfers

As for the guilt i know where your comming from, there was a group of about 6 of us in our academy we all started about the same time 12/13 and all had full coaching provided by the club up to the age of 18 which involved 2-3 hours of lessons a week, travelling the country playing etc all paid for... once i hit 18/19 and was thinking more about girls and cars and kinda give up on the golf 3 of the others stuck with it for a few more years and two of them are now asisstant professionals at golf clubs in sheffield worst bit is i was better at the time then one of them and about the same as the other, now would i rather be a sparky or teaching golf hmmm < real tears

i make you right there actually, huge difference in great players to 'a regular' pro so to speak.
Think i guy at my works passed an exam for teaching basic level stuff, he was off 9 iirc.

I,d like to just concentrate on my game instead of teachin others tbh , but yes the pro golfer status is a bit special eh ....... May play wednesday again with my dad and he,s mate harry
