Default Lowering Sierra estate springs

Hi, i have a 1985 sierra estate and i am wanting to lower the car i have been told by someone to just chop the springs and put them back on can anyone tell me if this is safe and how much i can cut off before the spring is no good.

im breaking a sierra estate which had cossie running gear fitted.its also got brand new adjustable koni rear shocks and lowering springs fitted

hello how much you want for the lowering springs and koni's, and do you have a cossie front bumper or xr4 front bumper. also do you know the answer to my question.
